When you installed, did you install as the Administrator? You might need to re-install... right-click on the setup file and choose "Run as Administrator". However, before you try that, take a look at this post...

Yes, did you installed it as administrator? And do you try to run the game as administrator or as another user? This is probably the reason why chessmaster can't access those folders, because windows restrict the access to those folders for that specific user.

What version of Vista do you have? And do you have the latest Service Packs (1 and 2) installed?

What if you run the game as administrator? (right click on the icon and "run as administrator...")

Did you try to re-install? I mean uninstall the game completely, then install it again. Run the setup.exe as administrator when installing (right click on setup.exe)
Whatever you install under Vista or Windows 7 you always have to run "As administrator..."
