Okay, you have all updates and your firewall is turned off. Do you have any anti-virus software running? That could be the issue... try disabling it. Also, what operating system are you using?

No, I think it must be something else. I use LAN play on Windows Vista (with all the latest updates) all the time. Just earlier this morning, in fact...

Perhaps it has something to do with "protection" in Vista. Try running the game as administrator. (right-click on the chessmaster icon and select this option).

I suppose you've installed all updates on both computers, and checked your router to ensure that all the proper ports are opened?

Hello, came across this thread because I was having the same problem. Just thought I'd let everyone know how I fixed it.
In my network connections, I had my active connection to my router, but I also had two other network connections that aren't in use. I disabled the extra connections and it just started working.
Hope this helps someone else.

I am having the same problem. Have tried everything mentioned in this post but cannot get it working. I am running XP Pro (sp3) and when I create a game I get the error "could not connect to session". Has anyone got a fix for this? (Yes I am running the latest patches and have disabled AV and firewall). Please help!

Hi, I contacted the US support line as per the suggestion. The support engineer suggested I call Microsoft as it is something in the OS that is causing it not to work. To say that this is midly frustrating is an understatement.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First, did you read the Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition FAQ, open all the required ports and temporarily disable your firewall/anti-virus software? If you haven't, then you should do this first thing. Second, I've always advised to call Technical Support rather than submitting a HelpDesk ticket... doing the latter will most likely result in an automatic reply that doesn't do any good. But I seriously doubt they said anything close to "Get the information on your own"... please send me their response via private message, and I'll look into it.
