Browsing through the chess sets and chessboards there, I wonder, are they worth the high price? Some of these chess sets go over $500!!!
When you browse to the web page, you'll find that Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition is not even in their chess software offering. Instead, I found Fritz 11. KHolister, maybe you could send them a mail, notifying them of this? sv. |

Well, their high-end sets are extremely nice and some of the best made. Personally, I'd love to have the Mammoth Ivory Collector Series -- it's only $13,000 USD!
So the question of "are they worth the price" ultimately depends on how much you can afford to spend... Two weeks ago, I did buy one of their tournament sets with plastic pieces (4" king), roll-up board, and carrying case; and I wasn't disappointed. Of course, the price was a much more reasonable $50 USD. At one time, House of Staunton did exclusively offer Chessmaster 11, which was prominently featured on their home page. As that's no longer the case, I can only conclude that the agreement between them and Ubisoft has ended... but I wouldn't let that cloud your judgment. |
