Hi,
I'm attempting to run CM XI in parallels 3.0 on a Macbook. However, the program gets through the opening movie and then crashes. A weird black screen w/multicolored dots and reflections comes up.
I checked the Direct X diagnostics and those are working fine in the Virtual Machine. Any thoughts as to what I should do?

Buy Windows.

Seriously, did you expect anyt other response? Chessmaster has enough troubles running under Windows.

Unfortunately, emulation isn't supported.

If you read the Code of Conduct / Forum Rules, it says that "Emulation, unless officially sanctioned, is technically piracy." I think that's a bit harsh, but I'm not the one who makes the rules... I just follow them. Smile

I have heard that the development team is working on a new version of Chessmaster for the Mac; however, I have not heard when it will be released...

Thanks for your reply--
Is there any possibility to run a 2d mode rather than a 3d mode?

Thanks---

In cm.ini file under [Settings] set Only2DBoards=1 and you also might try OpenGL=1. But I doubt it will work.

Hi mpomeran,
i can recommend vmware fusion, as emulation software. it runs absolutely great. it has every feature that parralels has, + directx9 support without hardware shaders. Not a single crash with chessmaster and i use it quite often.
have fun
ps: emulation is piracy is ridiculous (unless you use a pirated copy of cm)

No, there is a good reason for that...

The license agreement says you can use 1 copy of Chessmaster on one computer. With emulation, you could have more than one virtual machine, but you'd still be using 1 copy of Chessmaster; hence, piracy. Angry Blue Guy

Now, if you buy a Windows program and try to use it on a Mac with Parallels or vmWare, that's a different situation.

All the same, Ubisoft shouldn't (and won't) support a program used on a platform that it wasn't explicitly designed for. Nuh uh

shouldn't? that's not that obvious too me, won't?
ok but a bit old fashioned.

anyway i don't need support.

just recommended a solution.

by the way do you read every license agreement from software youre buying?
or just the holy UBI bible?

no offense just joking
have fun

Holy UBI Bible? Too Happy

Yes, I actually do read license agreements. Ubisoft is pretty tame as far as their EULA goes... you'd be surprised at some of the things other companies expect you to agree to in order to use their software. Shady

I also read user manuals, too... but then again, I have no life... Big Grin

Hi holterzoff! What version of chessmaster do you run in parallels? I tried running XI in VMware Workstation and it doesn't work. I get an error message as it's trying to initialize the game. =Frown(

You can disagree, but that really doesn't change anything. Nuh uh

In case you didn't read the Code of Conduct / Forum Rules, it states:
quote:
Emulation, unless officially sanctioned, is technically piracy.

Also, if you read the EULA (in case you haven't, it's an addendum to the Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition FAQ), you would see that it states:
quote:
In particular, Ubisoft accepts no liability regarding use of the Multimedia Product contrary to the precautions for use set out in the manual and on the packaging.

So that pretty much makes it clear -- Ubisoft won't entertain any complaints about Chessmaster not running under emulation.

Hi Rijn,
the reason for you error messages is that you have to activate direct3d in the vmware prefrences.
after that it will run smooth. have fun
