I just installed chessmaster XI and the 1.01 and 1.02 patches, but I get this error when I try to open the program:

"This application has failed to start because Kernel.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I tried reinstalling and it didn't work. I am running Vista if that helps..

Are you installing from the DVD, or a download?

Also, have you tried running the install as an Administrator?

running from download. I tried redownloading again to see if the download was corrupt or something..will try installing as admin. Thanks

Okay.

From what I understand, the download comes as a .zip file. If you're using WinRAR to open the file, you might want try another tool such as WinZip... Others have mentioned that WinRAR had problems extracting some of the files (the User Manual in particular).

You have to have admin privileges to install Chessmaster.

I am getting the same problem, i tried downloading winzip and extracting it from there but it did not work. kernel.dll cannot be found. i have administrator privilege and i am running a gaming laptop so i meet full requirements but the only problem is i'm running vista. please help me out

Were you able to install it, and now you're getting this error running the program?

First... when you install, do not alter the default location. Install it in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition

Second... when you run the program, you must run gu.exe (not Chessmaster.exe or game.exe); and it must be located in the above folder. Do not move the file onto your desktop.
