One day ahead of time FIDE released the July rating list.
The top remains the same. Topalov gained 1 ELO point and surpased Kasparov's 2812 rating that he had at the time of his retirement. He is still far away from Kasparov's peak rating (2851) though. Top rated Russian player is neither Kramnik, Morozevich, Svidler or Grischuk - it is Jakovenko! Biggest "loser" is Ivanchuk who had some lackluster performances in the recent past. He is now on place 30, just over the 2700 mark. I must admit I never heard of Evgenij Miroshnichenko before, but he is now world's #37. He gained 110 ELO points in the past year, which is even more remarkable if you consider that he is a mature player and not some youngster on his way up. The oldest player in top 100 is Karpov on place #98. It remains to be seen if this is his last entry on the top 100 list. He is the only remaining player that has been in ALL top 100 rating list since the beginning of ELO rating list. FIDE published it's first rating list in 1970. The youngest player in the top 100 is Wesley So on place 92. Average top 100 rating is unbelivable 2687, more than ever before. Nine years ago on July 2000 rating list, the average of top 100 players was 2644. |
