I recently bought Norton 360 and noticed there is a change in the strength of the AI in CMGME. A while back I was infected with a virus and I ran a virus scan and then typed in regedit and removed the keys that appeared in the virus scan. I know that accidentally deleting the wrong key can cause system instability. After that there were a few games where I drew Josh Age 12 (rating 2100) in training mode. Now I have pretty strong difficulty beating Josh Age 8 (rating 1600). Could the keys have been reinstalled by the optimization function of Norton 360? I'm playing on a high resources engine on a dual core 2.6Ghz AMD Athlon so the amount of positions seen can become pretty big, pretty fast on the computer.
I stopped using Norton a while back. It's just too much of a resource hog. I switched to Avast which is free for home use. It's a great program and much much much much more effecient.
It is possible, but only if the Chessmaster didn't run properly before and now it does. All Anti-virus software always slows down everything on your computer, not speed it up
