My new Dell inspiron 1525 doesn't have a video chipset I see listed as supported, and I don't know anyone who's tried any version of Chessmaster on it.
Does anyone know of it working or failing to work on this machine? -Rob |

Hmm... looking at Dell's website, it says the video card is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100.
It's not specifically supported, but there's still a good chance that Chessmaster will work. However, if you call Ubisoft Technical Support for problems, you'll be out of luck -- no matter what, they'll tell you your system isn't compatible. Before you purchase Chessmaster, make sure that the store you're buying it from will will let you return it if it doesn't work. Hope this helps! |

I'm hoping at least the 2D aspects would work, as I've never been into the 3D boards.
I play it on my PSP, but as I'm the only PSP user I know, there's no hope for multiplayer practice. (Not that the bots can't work me over thoroughly, of course.) |

Well, I've got two machines, one with a supported NVIDIA card, the other with an Intel video card (nearly the same as yours). Chessmaster works well on both; although the on the Intel card, the 3D sets aren't as smooth as on the NVIDIA. They aren't awful, just a bit rough.
The 2D sets work great on both cards. That being said, I guess it's up to you to decide if you want to take a chance and purchase it. |

Many thanks.
It's hard for me to believe I wouldn't be able to play some chess on this 2.4GH Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM just because of a video chipset issue. heh It's only chess. Still, worth asking. I expect I'll take the plunge, if only because the game probably costs less than a nice meal at a restaurant and wouldn't constitute a huge loss if there were problems. |

The X3100 graphics chip is the mobile version of the X3000 chip, they're the first graphics chips from Intel that actually have full hardware support for Dx9, they can run a surprising number of games compared to the older chipsets.
