I purchased the game Friday 28th March and have been trying to play online with a family member who purchased the game the next day. I have accepted challenges and played a few games online. We could never get the game to work between the two of us. When I send a challenge I can't tell if it's sending the challenge and if the other user is just ignoring me , or it is not showing up and working. Do you have to play a rated game versus a game in training mode when you send a challenge? Also, just to make sure it was't the router I competely disconnected it and I am directly connected to the DSL. But what is weird is I have played with both the router hooked up wireless and hooked diredtly to the DSL. Is there a bug? I downloaded the new patches when i loaded the game.
I wish you could tell if a user was ignoring or not accepting the challenge some way, and that I knew the challenge was being sent. New to chess, and to chessmaster Thanks, any help appreciated! |

What?!? If you send a challenge and that person doesn't join your game, then he is ignoring the challange. There is no way to decline a challange. You just ignore it and the challange window dissapears after few seconds. Because online play doesn't work like it should it can happen that the person didn't receive your challange at all. There is no way to know what happened unless you ask that person. |

This is kind of strange to say the least. I have had problems playing online. What I don't understand is the machine the family member is playing on is a brand new Gateway purchased 2 weeks ago with 3GB RAM, a new NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, DVD SuperMulti drive, etc...you get the point, and of course VISTA which I think is the problem. And we can not connect to play a game.
I am using a 3 years old e-Machines with an Intel graphics card, 512 MB RAM, 2.53 GHZ processor, with Windows XP, and can play most of the time. I did have a fellow Chessmaster player that I had made a Friend and could not play against them. He said remove him as a friend and it should work. He was right, he had done this against another friend of his and once they were removed from the friend list he could play them. It is a very intermittent thing playing online. I can play against some people and not others. I see the Yellow box pop up when being challenged by some but not others. But what really gets me is I can not play against the family member with the Brand new machine. Is there an online issue with the servers? Any ideas? |

Online Play does have some issues. However, Windows Vista isn't the problem...
First, what version of Chessmaster does your family member have? Keep in mind that if you have Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition, you can only play against those who have the same version... you can't play against someone who has Chessmaster 10th Edition. If I'm correct, online play is no longer available for CM 9000 and older. Some other things to remember: 1. You won't be able to play online unless you have the latest update (1.2.0) installed; if not, you'll get a message that says 'cannot connect to server'. You can check the version number by looking in 'Help About'. 2. Make sure you have all the proper ports open (see the Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition FAQ for details). 3. Temporarily disable any firewall/anti-virus software to see if that could be causing the problem. Hope this helps! |

We both just purchased the Chessmaster Grandmaster edition at the same retail store. I got mine Friday and they got their copy Saturday and they are both updated to the newest 1.2.0 version that was automatically downloaded when we installed the game and choose to download the newest updates.
And since we are connected directly to the internet and not going through a router at time ports should not be a problem correct? If it was a port problem wouldn't I not be able to play anyone? I can play some people online and not others. See below about friends. Also, I tried to play someone online that was in my friend area and we couldn't play. He said he had fixed that by deleting the friend. Which he was correct, once i deleted him we played (well he did anyway as he won) against one another. Is that a server bug or my computer? Thanks! |

Well, from your post, I know that you can connect and play others; it wasn't quite so clear that your family member was able to connect and play others.
Even if your family member is directly connected to the internet, that doesn't rule out problems from firewall and/or anti-virus software he/she may be using. You might not be able to play some people online because some games are rated; you can only play others in a rated game if the rating difference between you and someone else is 400 points or less. The 'Friend' issue you're having does sound like an issue on the server... |

Well it's definitely the problem with having someone as your friend. Took my game over to their house and loaded on their networked Windows XP laptop computer, went into the other room to try to connect to the game and nothing happened. Deleted myself as a friend in the game from their Vista Desktop. And bam...it worked like a charm. I could place from their laptop to the desktop in the other room no problem. So I will have to report the friend issue to Ubisoft if someone hasn't. Actually another player told me about this issue when we were trying to play an online game. Does UbiSoft know about this problem already?
Thanks! |
