I finished all the tutorials on the Chessmaster XI DVD. Played against the computer and an former championship master in my town. The guy said my game has improved considerably. I asked him for some books that I seriously study further, he said to start with endgames. However, I got used to the narrating style of Josh in his academy's and his idea of teaching.
I was eyeing the book "The Art of Learning" by Waitzkin. Is it good? Anyone read it? Any opinionns? |

I've read it... it explains several techniques for learning, and how they can be applies toward any area in your life. There's several stories from Waitzkin's chess career, and his competition in the martial arts (Tai Chi). It's quite informative and entertaining.
That being said, if you're wanting detailed chess instruction, then this book isn't what you're looking for. A better book would be "Josh Waitzkin's Attacking Chess". It's rather old (published in 1995), but very good. Check out Waitzkin's website: http://www.joshwaitzkin.com |
