I had the same issue, here is what I did to avoid the problem: use the filtering capabilities of your antivirus to prevent the *.exe files from your chessmaster directory to be scanned by your antivirus.
I deactivated anti virus but it freezes again. It happens in training mode in final phase of the game, usually after I took a piece from the other side.
My video card is Geforce 6600 GT. I updated firmware, lowered engine sliders and processus priority. So far it seems better. I will keep you posted on results. Thanks ebutaljib! (what a nickname)
CM Grandmaster freezing is caused by the CPU usage being too high. If you look in Task Master (Ctrl+Alt+Del at the Processes you will see game.exe and TheKing350 using up to 100% of the CPU. You can fix this problem by using a selective start-up with only the basic programs and processes running. Then you can start adding a process at a time until CM Grandmaster starts freezing up again. Usually CM Grandmaster will run just fine in Learn and Fun but will start freezing in Play usually after the 1st moves.
Another way is to add more RAM memory to your system. 2 GB seems to work.
Yes. There was a patch for CM10 for this problem that fixed the freeze problem. The program works fine when the computer plays itself, but when it plays a human, it will freeze. It freezes on my desktop: AMD Athlon 64 FX-53 2 GB RAM, but works fine on an old pentium laptop. Let me know when they fix the freeze problem in CM11 with a patch of some sort. Meanwhile, I'm going back to CM10.

For the 1000th time: 100% CPU usage is annoying and unnecessary, but it doesn't freeze because of this. You are talking about the "freezing patch" for 10th edition. Yes it does fix this problem, but the game still uses 100% CPU, doesn't it? If 100% CPU was causing the freeze then we would all experience it, wouldn't we?
And that "freezeing patch" you are mentioning is nothing more but the original TheKing.exe with the priority set to low.
You should be able to use it in Grandmaster edition too. Open Chessmaster and go to "Preferences--Engine" and under "Chess engine used" set the slider to low. Close Chessmaster. Download the 10th edition "freezing patch" and rename it to TheKing333.exe and put it in the Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition folder (save the original TheKing333.exe first). Now play the game and see if it's still freezing.
Of course this means that you are using the old Chessmaster engine and not the new The King 3.50 engine. If you want to use the new engine then you will have to manually set engine's priority to low (via Task Manager) everytime you start a new game.
What Ebutaljib has said is correct -- I didn't say it because it's already been discussed in previous posts.
And just so this doesn't get out of hand (as it as with previous posts), I'm locking this thread. Any future attempts to bring this issue up will be removed.
