Notable chess tournaments



It should contain all important tournaments, or more precisely - all important tournaments that are contained in Megabase

Note that the players are always ranked according to SB score, although this was not always the official tie-breaker. Only from year 2009 onwards (including 2009) the players are/will be ranked according to official tie-break method.


What is not there?
- obviously tournaments that I found unworthy to be mentioned
- some interesting tournaments that have no or too few games in Megabase
- tournament part of the World Championship cycle - they are covered separately (see here)
- swiss tournaments - there are some (not too many) notable swiss tournaments, like European Championships
- matches - specially in the old days when tournaments were scarce there was a lot of one-on-one play
- team competitions (except if it was in scheveningen format)


I hope all the scores are correct (if not, blame Chessbase, not me ). If you see any mistake with the flags, let me know.
