As impressive as that is, it's one game.

Given enough games, Stanley the chimp will beat Chessmaster, Deep Fritz, Garry Kasparov, or any other opponent (assuming he truly does make random moves).

Ok, enough Devil's Advocate: congrats Fritz Smile

And why wouldn't we believe it? There are much more people in this world that would say:

Believe it or not: Chessmaster defeated Fritz.

By the way, chessmaster's time control was Fischer 10/6, and Fritz's was 3min per game.
Chessmaster had much more time.
My friend also tried a game.Fritz XI defeated Chessmaster XI.

I hope you're not suggesting we throw away Chessmaster and switch to Fritz Wink

What does this prove, really? One chess engine beat another. How did that help you improve your game? (I'm assuming that most of us bought Chessmaster to help them improve their game).

Let's also not forget that Chessmaster has other features to consider. Tutorials are Chessmaster's strong point -- I don't think you can say that about Fritz.

Of course not. I just wanted to know which engine is better. I can use the better one to analysis a position or a game.
In fact, I like chessmaster very much, though it has a few bugs. Chessmaster is easy to learn and use. Besides, I can't defeat fritz all my life, but I can defeat some of chessmaster personalities.
If chessmaster defeated Fritz, I will throw away fritz and never use it. Wink
However, fritz wins. I intend to keep both of them.
Fritz is a software for Analysising, and Chessmaster is a software for playing and learning.

First of all:

Did you use two computer or just one?

Because if it's only one, and the computer is running both Chessmaster and Fritz, then it's invalid. Fritz could be hogging all the cpu process or vice-versa.

Who are you calling naive, chengongqpzm or us old-timers? Smile

I still have to wonder why the first thing some people do when they buy a chess program is try to play it against another program. Seems rather pointless to me... Hammer

First thing? No. I have got chessmaster for 3 years(of course it was 10th edition when 11th was unavailable).
Both of them are considered as the most powerful chess engine. I want to know which one is better. If a person says his spear can pierce through any shield in the world, and another says his shield can defend any spear in the world, I will be curious about what will happen when the spear attacks the shield.
Someone ask me whether two computer or just one was used. Only one. Using one computer will avail Chessmaster. Because chessmaster's game.exe and Theking350.exe took more than 90% cpu process and restricted ChessProgram11.exe of fritz. You know that Chessmaster has a better visualization and that shall take something.

maybe the complaints about chessmaster haven't been experienced by everyone Smile

edit: i didn't notice the 'vice-verse' Oops

i hate to disagree and to do it twice in one post is maybe too much. maybe you meant that they both consider themselves the best, because you'll be hard pressed to find a lot of people agree with that. probably among the top are: rybka, naum, zappa and hiarcs.. maybe i missed one or two. chessmaster isn't in the top 10.. and i'm not sure where fritz is, but it's somewhere in between

edit: of course i'm only talking about raw strength here. if you look at training alone, then i would say chessmaster is #1 .. or at least up there. although i have a bone to pick with the new section. most of the questions are so easy, it's annoying... and some are brain scratchers... all in one tutorial.

By whom??? Nobody in chess computer world considers The King or Fritz as the most powerfull engines on the world.

When advertising of course there are hints which could be undertood as "our program is the best in the world" but hey, this is advertising. What do you expect them to say?

"Buy our program which is 12th on the world regarding playing strength on the latest computer rating list" Veryhappy

Best of the best

Anyway I have more fun with the weaker personalities from Chessmaster. Big Grin

Probably I would be the best chess player in the world if I was not blundering so much...
