Hey, I tried looking in the Chessmaster manual, but I couldn't seem to find answers to my questions.

First, When analyzing games, I use the training mode and the mentor lines feature. On the side, it says "Depth" and gives numbers like 1/10 or 2/13. What do these numbers mean? I'm pretty sure the second one is how many moves it looked ahead, but what does the first number mean then?

Second, when doing the "analyze" feature, the game tells me when Chessmaster agrees/disagrees. My question is, what qualifies a move to be agreeable to chessmaster? I mean, obviously, any move that causes a severe loss in position and points will be disagreeable, but what else?

Thanks!

Also, on a side note, how is somebody supposed to use chessmaster to analyze games? I find that the analyze feature is really ambiguous and doesn't help much besides when I want to see my agreement percentage, however the mentor lines are only available for a ranked game if I save and go back to it in the training mode. Is there some other way I'm supposed to analyze my games?

Thanks again!

2/13 means that Chessmaster has analyzed 2 all two half-move combinations (also known as plies) and all potientially good combinations to a depth of 13 plies.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your second question. Frown

When you're playing a Ranked Game, it's as if you were playing against someone in a tournament; so naturally, Mentor Lines aren't allowed.

Normally, I use the Post-Game Analysis like the manual describes on page 23... typically, I select 'Analyze Game' and play through the resulting annotation. That really helps me on moves where I'm in over my head.

Chessmaster agrees with the move and doesn't count it as a mistake if your move is within 0.50 (half a pawn) score compared to chessmaster's "best move" (the best it could find in given time). If your move has a difference between 0.50 and (probably) 1.50 to best move, he will say "slightly better is...". If the difference is between 1.50 and 3.00 (or something), he will say "This leads to...., better is...", if the difference is above 3.00, he will say "oups" or "yikes" or something like that. And if you miss a mate, he will say that you are "asleep at the switch" Smile

The thresholds could be a little bit different, but you get the idea.
