Hi folks,

I am playing a winning position against " slick" when I repeat the same moves once. Cm declared in three-fold repetition. Intially, i thought it was a bug, because I did not repeate the same moves three times.

So I looked the rule up, the *******, and it is if the same position occurs three times, even if it occurs by a distinct moves,it is still three fold repetition. I've been playing chess for ages and am only just getting this rule. Shyte. the game is below.

This ranks up there with a game of street chess I was playing in L.A. once. I did not know that one does not have to declare check in these games and can actually capture the king (normal chess makes any move other than getting out of check illegal.) The game was dead drawn. nothing interesting in it. Then I "hung" my king not knowing this was possible. The guy said loudly in front of the people watching, "What a Weak move" and arrogantly captured the piece. I am still in therapy about this.

It's like playing Monopoly -- many people make up their own "house" rules.

A while back, my best friend refused to play chess with me any more because I promoted my pawn to a queen. My friend said this wasn't legal because there were only 2 queens to a set!

Don't let what anyone says bother you. Keep in mind that chess is also a psychological game... if your opponent can rattle you, your chances of making a mistake are much higher -- I've learned this the hard way.
