That is a lean cutdown. nearly half gone. I am counting on more towns, spells, monsters, etc in future expansion packs. So the initial doesn't bother me too much. It might if I used all those spells. It is looking like they are putting in the most useful ones, so no biggie. Hopefully...

*edit*
and I think some might be put into the new options for level ups as skills. Like holy charge etc isn't a spell but is in between. So depending on how many of that type thing we have it might not be all that different

I think we'll have even less then half of the H3 spells, because most probably they'll have some new ones, and some H4 ones (like the Magic Fist).

And that's pretty worrying. I was browsing now through a H3 spell book, and realized the only spell I've never used is Remove Obstacles (and that's because it was always so rarely needed, that I always forgot about it in battle strategies). There are a couple of others that I can live without (land mine for ex.), but 90% of them still remain a must IMO.

I can't remember any unused spells too, only that remove obstackle, but I even used it sometimes.

yeah I used a lot sometimes, but there was still the core 20 or so I would use all the time.

Like protection from air/earth/fire/water never used at all. I am sure I could come up with a list of probly 15 spells I never even used. Like visions... after you play around a bit in the game there is no use for that. In fact I don't think I have used that since H2.

We will just have to see what they give us, and hope any we find missing will be in the expansions

I rarely if ever use View Heroes/Mines/Resources/Mushrooms/Artifacts, Remove Obstacle, Inferno (like Chain Lightning better—its useful more often and seems to do more damage), Sacrifice, Frenzy, Disguise, Hypnotize (although I can see myself using that), Quicksand (in H3—it was much better in H4) or Landmine (the random placement really hurts its usefulness IMO). I haven’t used Visions recently, but I did for a while so I can’t say I’ve never used it. Mmm…that’s all that comes to mind right now.

There were quite a few spells in H3 that I rarely (if ever) used:
  • Force Field
  • Counterstrike
  • Disguise
  • Death Ripple
  • Fire Wall
  • Misfortune

Some spells like Visions & Magic Arrow were repeated in more than one School of Magic … so maybe Ubi/Niv is taking out the repeaters & less useful spells as the difference in number of spells.

My biggest concern about Heroes V is starforce and if they decide to use it (which last I heard was positive).

My biggest concern is that i fear they are building the game around the heroes 3 tournament comunity wich in my opinion sucks, if they pretend the game to be played in maps like those played on toh it will be hard that i play many or even some tournaments

I don't like the fact they are so concerned about balancing. mult, mult, mult - there is also single player! So many interesting stuff like dimension door is cool in single, and other things are being thrown out too - is mult that important?

I used protection from fire when I had Expert fire magic - then it was cool, especially when you know what skills your enemy has.

I did use Disguise a fair bit on the really hard games. it worked every time for me. If I was about to get a good character killed I would autosave reload and use Disguise. Bam they think I have a huge ary and leave me alone. Big Grin I forgot about that for the most part though

Even if you don't use spells frequently, they should be there. It adds to the game - you have handy spells, you have spells you use rarely - if you only have handy spells it is boring.

Just wondering...

What is Starforce, and why is everyone so concerned about it??

I'm concerned about only have 40 spells, this seems too few for a tbs...

hopefully, the other towns will be wizard (this is obviously in, since the wizards keep propping up official history of the necromancers), nature and stronghold. But that means warlocks would miss out - I'd actually rather have warlocks than deamons, especially since warlocks have been around since Heroes I. Oh well, at least that means everyone will buy the expansion to get that one staple Heroes town which Heroes V omitted.

I just hope the reason there is only 6 castles is the story, not other things. Eh... I want to be an optimist! Frown

Starforce is a protection system that will be used on the beta testing. The protection creates a lot of problems and does not help against piracy. Find the topic "Starforce" and read the last two pages, especially an article one guy called milley or comething wrote.

1. Not having a strong single player experience. I don't do multi, it's just not my thing, so I want the campaign to have a good story and be enthrawling.

2. The way the creatures turn on an axis when they begin and complete a combat action.

-Retaliation system, no loss combats
-No realistic or beneficial siege system(like those one which players leave only a few troops for some shooting from towers becasue they realy dont do anything)
-Single Battle decided games between human players
-Broken spells such as expert townportal,dimension door fly, 2nd level blind,hypnotise,mass slow or special eabilities such as logistics return
-Castle forced playing styles to return(you are barbarian you must rush,you are warlock you must gatherup resources.
-Classic creatures not to show up in the game.
But still ı try to keep my morale hight there are good steps taken.
