They had to hurry out after the show though. They had some roleplaying to do in the nearest forest.

For some reason I was searching for my bow and sword while they played Big Grin

At least I hope countires will understand that it isn't about being as main stream and international as possible, and perhaps they'll even focus on the songs instead of the melodies since most of the more sexual songs didn't do so good Veryhappy

Freedom - a mountain in the distant sky, love in the grass, birds on the vast plains of the sea...
Freedom - I treasure your name, I love your sweet sound, I smell your dreams.

I see you - when I turn away
I hold you -when my hands are full

Freedom -
Never shall you be more than a name to me

Actually I think it's a shame that Finland won. In my opinion ESC has been flawed now. But I don't care. I don't watch it anyway.

They where original and good music. The only ones that could compete where Latvia... but it's almost only me who seems to think that... Denmark... I'm afraid we've done better... That one was horribly mainstream, no message, round and round the same things... Not worth listening to if you ask me. I want texture, good music (that says something and helps the text) and originality... The only musics that really seem to be able to fit originality now at days are metal, while ballads and folke songs are great with the music and texts Smile

I don't think it has been flawed... i think it has been shaken and hope we'll see less boops now and less idiotic mainstream. Perhaps we'll now walk away from the mission that channels like MTV have, to show half naked women and men to horny teenagers, and start to go back to the music... At least I can hope so Sad

I agree. That little wakeup call might just be what ESC needs. Just a reminder that things shouldn't be so pink and fluffy.

Never said the danish contribution was great, but I did expect it to do way better. In my opinion it was a typical ESC song. Wink

I'm not in anyway into the ESC so I have to ask. What is it about? Really? I mean, isn't it mainstream? In what way has it stood out in earlier years?

EDIT: By the way "grindehval" is "caaing whale." Wink

with one thing i really agree that Europian get pop' by sexualism and pityful songs about love, which made it streamlined..
Finlans played rock' and they singing theme was so far difference from other'
i liked Russia, B&H, Switzerland, Norway really as well.

In the earlier years the music was good. It was different from different countries, it was possible to be original, there where often meanings and opinions in the song text... now it's all getting more and more, no offence meant, Americanized... all about showing bare skinn and getting a melody with a fast beat rythm that is just so international and has nothing to do with your countries culture at all... Sad if you ask me Frown

And I don't remember when the live music was taken out... much better with live music as the Fins gad Smile

Those who somewhat where unthypical for the late americaniced trend, in my opinion, where finland, Norway, Latvia and Armenia... Finland... well it's obvious Big Grin, Norway played a lot on the elven girls and forest spirits, Latvia was just AMAZING no music and still it sounded as if there was music behind the singing Veryhappy and Armenia played on the arabic theme that Turkey for example had left out...

no... it's pilot whale... at least if grindahvalur and grindehval is the same thing... I'm Faroese and talk Faroese, so I don't know if just that word is the same on Faroese and Danish, men jeg er, som alle færinge, god til at tale og skrive danskt... and we are a part of Denmark in competitions like this, although Iceland now and then invite us over to them in the ESC Smile

i like song with folklore elements. i even saw that in Norway' song. Smile and yes Latvia's idea was really great - six vocals with no background..

Just found their web page Veryhappy www.myspace.com/thelordi the music is free Surprised

I've almost not downloaded it Angel

It's a bit hard to read on their page, so i'll just post this here so I can read it Big Grin

About thelordi
The news just seem to go from bad to worse, doesn't it? Flicking through the channels can make one clinically depressed. Everyday it's the same old story: crisis here, crisis there, death and despair everywhere But hold on, what's that? Shhhh stop your moaning for a second! Yes about f****n' time!! I think we're saved, my friend. Finally the real monsters are about to take over from those mere mortals, those pathetic wannabe bad guys only capable of messing things up for the rest of us. It's the day of rockoning, it's the Arockalypse! The end of the world has been replaced by a never-ending party. Make way for these Five Horsemen (er, make that Horsecreatures, or something) because they're Bringing Back the Balls to Rock! Lordi has returned having written the third chapter of his nightmare, and this time he has brought some heavy friends along. This third chapter, The Arockalypse, presents our heroes as leaner and meaner than ever, in more ways than just one. Lordi himself, forever the perfectionist, has kept on sharpening his focus. He really wants to bring his dream-cum-nightmare to life and nothing short of a total bombardment of the senses will do. Leaner and meaner, yes, but the riffs are certainly not de-fleshed nor are the mighty choruses mummified. These songs are made to kick your ass, and then kick it some more. The Night of the Loving Dead is in full swing, baby! I'm not sure if you can say that the beast has shed some of its baby fat but clearly something has happened. Their appearance is, umm, more streamlined. At least guitar monster Amen has lost most of his clothes and that sure makes the Deadite Girls go Wild! Kalma and Enary on the other hand are gone, vanished into thin air, replaced by Ox and Awa (on bass and keyboards, respectively). There has been no talk of 'musical differences' so it must have been a case of a monster's gotta do what a monster's gotta do, I s'pose But rest assured, extraterrestrial man- beast drummer Kita has stayed put, solid as a rock. Originally hailing from Northern Finland, Lordi now resides in that universal nightmare network of sewers, cemetaries and creepy attics. The gruesome collective has swapped the sub-arctic for the subconscious. Heavy friends, you ask? Oh yes, the poison cherries on top of the cake! Some longtime heroes and fellow travelers of the netherworld have contributed to the Good to be Bad cause. Dee Snider acts as the party's MC, infiltrating the radio broadcast that opens the album (SCG3 Special Report) while his Twisted Sister compadre, guitarist Jay Jay French, guests on Chainsaw Buffet. Former KISS axeman Bruce Kulick delivers a blinding solo on It Snows in Hell and Accept legend Udo Dirkschneider's distinctive voice can be heard on They Only Come Out at Night. It has been rumoured that for once one could see tears in our monsters' eyes Just when everything appeared to be business as usual in the Lordi camp - the album finished and all - we're informed that they have been entered into the qualification rounds of the Eurovision Song Contest! I kid you not. Finland, who's claim to Eurovision fame remains a lone 6th place from some 30 years ago might well be tempted to unleash this beast upon the said cosy European institution. Annihilate the whole damn thing once and for all! Brothers and Sisters, let me hear a Hard Rock Hallelujah!! Lordi and his gang of derelicts have already made appearances in a fair number of European countries, armed with their pyrotechnics, theatrics and that infamous wall of sound. Their motto: always over the top, never under the belt. Good clean fun for everyone (Ha! Ha! Ha!)! Now they're setting their sights further afield. They're out to get you. Just head towards the sound, follow the trail of horror videos, gory cartoons, action dolls and related memorabilia and you will find your way to the Unholy Grail. The time is now. The day of reckoning. The Arockalypse. The time to have fun. ---Courtesy of www.drakkar.de

See you all next year in Helsinki!!

Well, Lordi came and rocked Eurovision contest to a new level. If not taken Lordi into account, I really liked Bosnia&Hertzegovina, Latvia, Norway and Croatia, Romania too. There were others, but those came to mind right now. A special mention to Iceland, that humour is not widely accepted in Europe it seems. But I had fun.
Nevertheless, go Finland go!!

To get to Lordi's other page try using lordi.org. it was a refreshing change to the usual fluffy pap that is the EU Pong contest.

Hi, I`m from Latvia, and i`m gonna comment Latvia`s performance this year in the ESC.

First of all, thank you, who enjoyed our "band", but in my opinion Latvia got, what it deserved. Well, we should have recieved more points than we did, but not too much. you see, Our country is not rich, nor is the government "un-corupted". Our 6 men went to the ESC almost all alone, with no help of our coutnry. They had almost no show at all. The song was not the best of their songs. (oh man how good they sing my favourite Michael Jackson Songs :*) And mostly the problem was europe itself, they just didn`t udnerstand what we were supposed to do on the stage anyway o_0 . Anyway, it is a big honour for me to hear that someone DID understand us. Thank you =)

Oh, and by the way, my favourites were Ireland and Lithuania (oh man how I laughed when our beloved neighbours Lithuanians sang).
