The old might and magic games were fun games to play if you could get passed the poor graphics and the constant running back to town to sell all the useless items you got from running dungeons. These days the only games that even come close to might and magic are never winter nights and Oblivion. I have just replayed might and magic 6 and plan on replaying them all because I find the games more interesting and fun to play then most of the resent RPG games.
The market may be ready for something else so why not just take something from the past that was a success and reintroduce it to the market of today with upgraded graphics. Most of the story lines from resent games have been, demon this and demon that, while might and magic did have demons in it, the story line wasn't totally based on them. Since all the games have the same basic story line we are getting very shallow games with good graphics. Its almost as if games makers just throw a story line together as quickly as possible along with game balance and spend all the time on graphics with some thought placed into interface. The games of the old were just plain better than the games of the new. We still see RPG games made today but non of them are turn based and this is unfortunate. NWN2 comes close to might and magic but they lack action and have a very very very annoying interface where they needed to have a turn based mode like in Might and Magic but instead they make it impossible to have total control over the party. They also have a little to much story line. Oblivion is game with a world that dwarfs the Might and Magic world but most of it is useless. I applaud them for making a huge world that has a wonderful look and feel to it but if one plays through the game as completely as possible they will simple miss 70% of the world as it hold nothing new and is repetitive. In Might and Magic one doesn't have to visit the entire world but if one does at least they will get something from it instead of just another dungeon with nothing new. What we can take from Oblivion is that it is possible to build a huge world with todays graphics. The complexity of the dungeons from the old might and magic games were awesome, like the Tomb of Varn. Games like Diablo2 did have complex dungeons but there is a huge lack of games with complex dungeons that make one think. Instead they are all hack and slash and short. Hack and slash it good and should be in any game but a game should not be totally based on it! One thing the makers of the Might and Magic got 100% correct would be the leveling system. You spend skill points you get from leveling and some random items. This makes sure you can only do so much with one character so you don't become the jack of all trades. This actually adds a lot to a game because it forces the player to get services from the town and they have to place some thought into the make up of the party. Most RPGs of the day also only include one character this is good but having 4 or more in a party adds more to a game as the player has to put some thought into it. The old 3DO company did go out of business on the might and magic games but I don't think it was the game that put them out of business. Quite simply, they had a very dated graphics system at the time of the release of the game. There were other annoyances in the games like having to run back in the middle of a dungeon run to sell items and items breaking all the time later on in the game but these did not make for a bad game. Its almost as if the gaming industry is going the same direction that Hollywood is. Might and magic is still and will always be one of my favorite games and this dark messiah game that was made was kind of fun to play but its no might and magic! |

I totaly agree. M&M6 was the best. You made nice games but out of the original M&M concept.

Might and magic 6 and 7 were great games, 8 was ok but i totally agree that 9 was rubbish. Looking at the direction of the mm franchise after dark mesiah, i hold little hope for mm x.
these days i get my rpg fix from bioware, they at least are still running strong after over a decade. I remember playing balders gate 1 around the same time as mm6 and 7, those were the days. now 3do is dead, but at least bioware is still around. |

IV - VIII were superb games, agreed. Haven't played the older ones and can't get myself to finish IX.
Hopefully we'll get a MM like MM X, but if not then we can always stick to the old games, the mods and the occasional game which turns out to be good School is over... One year of freedom and after that it's Uni. 7 years of Uni and then work. 40 years of slavery which culminates in freedom... A few years of forgotten freedom, hidden away from the public eye and then death.- Only God knows what will happen after that. - Life of Justice |

It's sad but true. They might not be interested in some people wishing a new game they never made before. They should know that many people would buy it. But how to gather the people? Useless. The only to get such game way may be supporting remake teams. I am able to make some music(nice), textures(averge), models(I don't want to make models it takes so much time to make the one you exactly wanted), many ideas for gameplay rules, quests. But you must note that I am little lazy. |

Well, who would make it though?
For example we know Fallout 3 will not be the same as and probably won't be as good as Fallout. Similarly there's no way that Dark Messiah should have the might and magic name on it. It's fine as it's own little action game. Nothing to do with MM. Yep, the Might and Magic dungeons had some great designs...so did some of the early wizardry games. It just isn't done that way anymore. help! the forum ate my post. |

M&M 7 and 8 were great its to bad i couldn't look past the graphics enough to get into 6.
A M&M 10 would be sweet! M&M 6-8 had so much better role play than Morrwind and Oblivion (Both were great games though). Imagine a true M&M game with that type of graphics? It would dominate the RPG market! |
