So hi guys! I havent visited this forum since Heroes 5 was released. I dont know if Nival Interactive reads this forum but... The new Heroes they made is just a real letdown, I have played all Heroes games starting in 98 with Heroes Of Might And Magic and then went on until the fifth installment. 3DO did such nice work with the game it is unbelivble. Now what Nival did was just horrible, i mean why does the new Heroes game have to be to like 6 year old people?? The graphics are good but icons and characters in the game are just like toys for little kids. Heroes 2-3 were the best out there. Who is with me on that and who wants that the new Heroes should come like 2 and 3 was, with a great story and mature graphics and game settings. Right now its like World Of Warcraft vs Everquest series, with WoW intended for 10-14 year olds and Everquest to like 20-.. year olds.
Hope this thread is not meaningless to you all. Im one of the biggest fans of the series, i just wanted to tell you guys how upset i am with new installments. Ubisoft does one thing good! Release of the Heroes Of Might And Magic Complete where all the chapters of the game is in, with T-Shirt and all. Gonna buy that for sure. |

You know, there were scores of topics like this one before. And the posts like this one were hundreds, if not thousands... It was repeatative and irritating several months ago, now it's just boring.
You see, I'm a HoMM III fan for life and for me this is the best game of the series. BUT HoMM V is far from "childish" and with the last expansion it became really nice game. Give it a try, I mean - REALLY! If you survive the pathetic AI, the terrible optimization, the imperfect balance and the almost useless RMG - everything else is of very good quality. I guess you'll need some time to realize this though. |

To speak completely objectively as someone who has played all of the Heroes of Might and Magic titles, I have to say that HOMM 3 was by far the most enjoyable. With the exception of the graphics being outdated, this game is perfect. The AI is challenging, the user interface is easy to learn, the story is involving, and even the musical score is very fitting. The 3D effect which was added to later versions sounds good in theory, but it only gets in the way when you're controlling the battlefield. Keep in mind, this is a strategy game - not a RPG. Another thing that spun out of control was the emphasis placed on the heroes and developing their skills. In HOMM 3 and HOMM2, you could improve your hero by visiting landmarks, experience, and by acquiring artifacts. This was simple and it was all we needed to do with our heroes - it should be kept that way. If you want to make a true Heroes Of Might And Magic Strategy game, then build it off of HOMM 3 and simply improve the graphics and stay away from cartoonish/anime nonsense. I promise you - not only would this game be easier to develop, but it would reap amazing sales as well! That's this hardcore HOMM fan's take on things - hope it helps!

Ubisoft needs to take a closer look at the Katauri company.
Katauri's King's Bounty game *is* HoMM 5. It looks like the Homm series, it sounds like the Homm series and it feels like one of the Homm games. Also the 3D engine they used is less resource hungry. If Ubisoft allowed Katauri to develop the Homm 6 game, it would probably be the best day in my life. |

i wouldn't say that, king's bounty is nothing more than king's bounty and shouldn't be compared to HOMM because they have two different kind of playstiles

I agree with Dimitry and Dergos too, that it could be the best game ever..but before that...we should think about some things...
Do we need another monotone game? We are witnesses that nether one HOMM serial wasnt even half popular as it was HOMM3. It is the good idea to bring Katauri team to make the game but ONLY if they keep the original HOMM concept. But what Ubisoft needs now its a team who can make soo wonderful game as it was HOMM3. Best music and sound, best gameplay (better than HOMM4 & 5), somehow it keeps you playing it for hours and even when it "get boring" you wanna play it again, after much more years So, my opinion is that Ubisoft need to relive the HOMM3 and bring the original team again, even we all know that they fall apart, but if they rebuild 3DO team again, definitely we will be witnesses on another miracle |

I got a good idea!!!
You got 7 creatures, You get 28 upgrades for your creatures (Max upgrade level 7 for a creature) so you can choose wich creature you wanna upgrade to level 7 your pixie or your dragon or both but it will cost 14 upgrades it's your choice. it's probably alot off work but you have a long time alot off fun if you want to discover all creatures and what they all can do at level 7 i dont care what kinda creatures would be in the game, Ubisoft knows what they are doing |

I would honestly have to say that my favorite HoMM was 3, I loved it, I kept going back to play it, somehow it got corrupted, and what not, but I bought it again

I hope HOMM 6 is in development! 1-2-3-4-5 played it all, all where great with his own style.
I have one more thing to say, can someone PLEASE do a Dungeon Keeper 3 ?! I don`t kow who, but it should be done. |

"Keeper, you have something unpleasant under your fingernail."
We have serious reasons to believe that HoMM VI is actually in development, so keep the faith. |

I began playing video games and D&D in 1977 and have seen many titles come and go because they became to cute or boring. Here are some tips for UBI:
Keep it dark, foreboding and ominous. Nothing pulls you into a game like a good villan. And nothing keeps you there like a scary atmosphere. There are plenty of other titles for the younger demographics. Make HMM a little darker. Take these suggestions from the rivals: Kings Bounty - Cursed item battles are great (Rings, weapons, etc) Fantasy Wars - Great tactical placement system. It is more spacial and provides for richer battles Ascention to the Throne: Forcing the player to take on two or three more waves of unexpected battle Desciples: Creature development and growth on the battlefield UBI is doing a great job - lets keep it moving in the right direction. Thanks! |

Well what i think HOMM 6 should be about is more online. I know this may sound like WoW but to tell you the truth I have never played it, but I know a lot about it. MY point what they should do is have you start off in a world. There will be other players there and you have a hero and a castle (of your choice) and you have warriors. MMORPG of HOMM would be cool. Wouldn't you agree??? You would have your own land and you will travel to get mines and upgrade and get soldiers.
What I personally think what would be cool is have a massive fight when 2 heroes fight and you can chose to be any soldier and fight yourself. If he dies then you can watch the fight or chose another soldier to fight with. Each character will have their own ability. So tell me what you think... I swear I ahve not played WoW and will never play. HOMM rox |

I totally agree on that one , being a huge Disciples fan maybe more than a Heroes 5 one(Sense evil lurking On the other hand Ubisoft is doing a great job by keeping the original concept of Heroes 3 and I seriously don't get all the complaint As for King's bounty and Heroes , we are speaking of two differit game types The New Prince Of Persia Deathbringers :~Khaled~Lester~André~Jo~Dido~Morty~Vlad~Roxy~ |

Right, In the spirit of throwing stones, I've got bag of pointy ones.
Let slip, Heroes 5 was bearable, much the same as 3, 4 and all the cash cow expansions, there are several glaring issues. but most have been covered. There seems to be some bizarre obsession with having dragons as a premier troop. The height of this stupidity climaxed in Heroes 3 Armageddon's blade with the arrival of 3 more dragons! Get rid of them go have a look at heroes 2, a unique team for each team. The eastern tribes expansion also has a disturbing amount of dragons, surely creatures such as the behemoth are more interesting than another washed up dragon? As far as advice for H6 (if it happens), I'd recommend not sensationalising it too much, not everything has the be the 'most,' or the 'loudest.' It ends up being a bad hollywood destruction of a good story, much like Diablo2 was to Diablo1. Originality is not reproducing, and looking at other games is not a great idea either as it just ends up being a 'bit like that other game.' The graphics are all well and good, but a bit like a story with out a plot; ends up being quite pointless if there is no substance to back it up with. Another bad version of Heroes will be the nail in heroes' coffin, the Tiberium sun to Red alert.etc |

Somehow, I don't know why, i often don't play the first in the series: Teken, i played 2,3,4,5. Diablo, Played 2 and will definitely play 3. HoMM Played and own 2,3,4,5 and Don't want Ubisoft to stuff 6 up like they did a bit to 5 and ABSOLUTELY to 4. Anchoiade Mentioned Diablo 2 being a hollywood-like of diablo1. i REALLY liked diablo 2 so, if that means HoMM 6 will be that good, i will definitely want HoMM6 to be "hollywood like". HoMM 3 was and is probabaly the game i played the most in my life! I know what you mean by too many dragons, Devils=good, Angels=good, Hydras WERE good in HoMM3, Bone Dragons; if i'm not mistaken were the first dragons on HoMM and are probably the most fun. I personally, in HoMM 5, always go with inferno. The storyline was easier to follow (and yet more rich and fun) in HoMM 3 then HoMM5, even with the 4 or 5 year difference between me now (with HoMM5) and me then (with HoMM3). HoMM4 was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL in my opinion, i liked how you could move your creatures but i think there should be a penalty for doing that (like loosing 10% of men traveling). Random enemies shouldn't move, it makes the map more of a minefield then a landscape. Chances are, if it didn't have the name "Heroes Of Might And Magic IV" on the front i wouldn't have bought it, nor would i have bought HoMM 5 within days of its release. 3DO (if they even exist) should be re-hired to make the next HoMM. If budget wasn't a concern, you might as well get Crytek to do teh graphics and 3DO to do the game, The graphics were one of the most enjoyable thigs on HoMM5 but the over 3D-ness kind of interfered with play. I Hope a free beta-version will be out before the game so any negative-yet-constructive feedabck will be noticed heavily to stop another disastrous game like HoMM4.

If HOMM VI ever comes about, I'd like it to make the following radical changes:
Troops should be able to get upgraded after successful battles (just like in the Total War series). There should be 3 levels of upgrade - 'battle hardened', 'veteran' and 'elite'. Each is awarded according to the amount of damage the stack deals out during battles. Upgrades should bestow morale bonuses and/or special abilities. Recruiting new units into the stack should dilute the veteran status (see TW). Perhaps this way of earning (and safeguarding) elite units could replace the need to build new structures in towns? Dynamic weather on world maps! Rain should hamper ranged units & slow movement of heroes. The arrival of winter should freeze some rivers, making new routes across the map. Snow should better reveal the movement of rival heroes - tracks that mark the direction and strength of enemy units (perhaps only available as a hero 'tracking' skill). Introduce topography onto battle maps. Ranged units should be positioned on high ground to enjoy attack bonuses. Defending units get a bonus when commanding a hill. More terrain features on battle maps: Hill forts that can be occupied. Battles across flowing rivers, with each party attempting to control the bridge. Defensive barricades that can be erected by some units only. Oh, and don't leave out Orcs until the second expansion! |

Just wanted to say ive been now playing H5 for a month or two, first finished the tribes of the east and now finishing the original H5, then going on to Hammers of Fate. Anyhow, the storytelling is so bad that its not even funny, the graphics are so childish, i look at the troops and so on, they look like they are some blown up balloons for kids. Horrific stuff. There is nothing scary or chilling bout the H5 saga. All characters look cute and cuddely.
So I hope that there is a whole new engine for the next game and for the love of god hire some good story writer. |
||||
|
There's nothing scary or chilling about anything in the HOMM series. That's the point - it's a 'high fantasy' turn-based strategic rpg; if you want scares, go play Resident Evil or something. As for the graphics, it's a stylistic choice isn't it? Biggest selling game being WoW - the pressure to ape its art style must of been immense. Having said that, a return to a more classic HOMM3 styling would be welcome. Story writing is also not this series strong point. It never has been. It's about amassing armies and crushing your foes. Narrative is always going to come a poor second. |
