Quote from the brazilian guy.
Yeah, I know our team is weak, actually it has been weak since our coachers (trainers, whatever) decided to not like Romário, the ACTUAL best player. He is pissed, if anyone could remember, we won 94 because of him, and it is truly amazing to watch him in the field, even depressed and not willing to seriously be part of the game he still scores 1-2 goals himself (the team he is playing right now have only players that hates him, so he basically plays by himself, he is in team because of the 1-2 goals a game he scores...), and that from a brazillian who don't like the sport that much (yes, those exist). Still, just to refresh some minds, Brazil didn't had a good team in 2002 as well (you don't know how "Filipão", the trainer of 2002, was criticized here, and yet we won... somehow, I myself wasn't sure of that year...), yet, this year I can't tell much of our chances. One last note, I know Robinho and Ronaldinho (second note, "inho" in the end of a name is diminutive in portuguese, like "doggy" or "Jimmy") aren't the only good players, they are well known because they're attackers, but there is a "team player" called "Cacá" that does one of the best delivering around. --Signal Incoming-- "If I like you, you can call me Sarge. But, guess what, I DON'T LIKE YOU! Do you understand, scumbag? It's Sergeant General to you" |

Keep the good thought
Well, here a little tip, you can actually have a chance if your selection gets Romário. He isn't in ours because our trainer is a fruit. Romário may not have the best attitude nowdays, but because he was forced into it. But the guy could secure 1-2 goals a match for you --Signal Incoming-- "If I like you, you can call me Sarge. I dont get how so many people can dislike Americans. The most common "stereotypes" for Americans are that they are ignorant and full of themselves.. but then here are a bunch of people making ignorant comments about Americans, and pumping up their own egos in the process. By your definition, you are doing a very American thing
All that being said, I am not sure why we decided to call our sport Football. According to wordorigins.com.. "Soccer is an abbreviation for Association Football. The Football Association was formed in London in October 1863 when representatives of eleven clubs and schools met in an attempt to standardize the rules of the game. One of the rules prohibited the carrying of the ball, a rule that would lead to the Rugby-oriented clubs leaving the Association several months later. The name Association Football was coined to distinguish it from Rugby. By 1889, the abbreviation socca' was in use, and the spelling soccer had made its appearance by 1895." American Football evolved from Rugby, and Rugby was apparently once associated with soccer(football), and so that may be where the name ended up coming from. Im not sure. Personally I prefer American Football to soccer. It is what I grew up with and ive developed a love for the game, so i can understand why people who grew up with soccer dont really care for American football, cause I dont really care for Soccer. Anyway, whether you love soccer or football, I dont see why you have to insult one or the other, or the people associated with it. If you want explainations of American Football and why it is played the way it is, and why they wear "armor and tights".. ill be happy to explain it to you. They dont do it because they are afraid to break a nail. Anyway... last I heard, the Americans were ranked pretty high on the "standings" for international Football.. so maybe ya shouldnt be saying we suck at it America is a country made up of millions upon millions of people. Only a fool would pass judgement on that many people, based on what they see on television. Lets try not to get too harsh eh? |

hmm..yah we are rated 14th in the world now..according to this anyway.
http://www.eloratings.net/world.html I do believe we were rated 7th or something not too long ago though. 14th aint too shabby either, considering there are 227 teams listed there |

I doubt they'd put soccer on in the US if we were rated #1...

prolly not.. though it has been getting more popular in the US lately. I hope it continues to grow as a sport here. Id like to see us competing better on an international level.
Its just difficult with Baseball, bastketball, and our brand of football being so popular.. a 4th popular sport just feels like overkill. Especially if ya live up north and have Hockey to follow as well |

Actually, this is not true, and I don't know where you got it from. USA have never made it further than the semi-finals in a World Cup. The "shocking" result you are talking about, was when the US won 1-0 against England. But that was in the group stage (wich they failed to qualify from), not in a final. More about that match here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England_v_United_States_%281950%29 The great nations have always acted like gangsters, and the small nations like prostitutes - Stanley Kubrick |

He is old, and Pelé said he should retire... But he answered: "Pelé when in silence is a poet." Have you seem his games. The guy wants to continue playing, and he is a great player. He didn't went for te last cups (and isn't going in this one) for personal reasons from the trainers, but that doesn't stop him from playing, he is in brazillian team and he isn't palyin seriously, since he thinks those teams are a joke. He doens't even chase the ball, still he scores in EVERY SINGLE MATCH HE GOES. His goal/match medium is already past Pelé. And, by all means, I always try to not start boasting, but people brings the subject in, not me. I'm just keeping the subject, and telling the truth. And by the truth I mean, we probably won't get the title this year (but how four years ago my bet was on that and I lost, and four year before it was in the win and yet I lost, I don't think my guesses are good). And when I talked about American Football and Baseball, I wasn't saying it is necessarily bad sports, I'm just saying that americans usually are too full of themselves when speaking of those games as if they were the most important games in the world. For me, the most important game in the world is Heroes Resuming, I like to work with facts, and if there are no facts, I like to stay neutral. Or, by preference, against the americans, just because (and this is a fact) they are usually wrong or greedy... or sometimes cruel... --Signal Incoming-- "If I like you, you can call me Sarge. If you dont live in America then, honestly, how many Americans do you come into contact with usually..and do all of them just run up and say "Your foreign sports suck. You should be watching American sports" ??
just curious cause this whole "Americans are full of themselves and try to make everyone do what they do" thing... im just not seeing it. I think the whole idea stems from our foreign policy.. with our government trying to make everyone live like Americans |
