And not everything on abandonware sites is free, underdogs clearly state in the info on some of their games, that the game is only available to purchase, and isn't available as a free download. Both Underdogs and Abandonoia, remove games, or redirect to a purchasing link, if the copyright holder objects. They've done that with quite a few games in recent months.
ImperialDane - So if the developers aren't around anymore, who am I supposed to pay? Abandonware means a product that has been abandoned by the developers, publishers and any other rights owner. So abandonware is by no means illegal to download since there's no one to collect profit from it. Sometimes people mistake old products which have been taken off the shelves and are not manufactured anymore for abandonware when infect some company still holds the rights to it.
In any way, anything that is offered for free download on the-underdogs is perfectly legal for the same reason BTOG46 mentioned.
You can play Arcomage with hundreds players online in your Internet browser (no download, no installation required). Now it is possible thanks to new browser based online game like homm: Tavern heroes online
