Hello all!

I will be honest with you, I have no clue about the Might and Magic universe, other than it involves battering goblins to death with Kraldorn's Magical Spade of Worthlessness. I do actually have a copy of Heroes V but I am too scared to install it. Veryhappy

So, this is your chance to educate me in the ways of Might and Magic. Plus it gives me a great chance to get to know the community.

When did you first come in contact with the series?

Which game or games in the series do you prefer and why?

What would you say to a newbie to convince them to look into Might and Magic?

Where would you like the series to head in the future?

Sum up Might and Magic in 3 words.

This is open to everyone in the Might and Magic Community who feels like joining in this discussion, so I look forward to everyones replies. Typing

i got Heroes 3 as my first game and was instantly hooked. i was about 10, i guess. After that i got into the rpgs.

Might and magic 7, first rpg i played, and it got all the good stuff from mm in it, from fantasy to scifi, lots of different weapons, kind of quests, graphics that don't bother me even up to today,...
heroes 3, cause it was my first game, the extremly thick notebook which explained everything superb and had super art in them.
heroes 4(without the expansions), the campaigns were very immersive, innovating gameplay, but expansions were bad and so were graphics

just play the games and you will see

MM10 ofcourse Wink2 and a dark messiah 2, altough a bith longer sp and the mp done y arkane this time(mp dm wasn't bad, but i could have been better)

Kraldorn's Magical Spade of Worthlessness Blink I demand that artifact to be placed in HoMM VI!

It was 10 years ago, in 1998. One of my friends was playing HoMM II and after that I bullied him into playing it each time I came by his place. Later, when I got my own PC in 2000, I got a hold of Might and Magic VII and then HoMM II. Now I own all the HoMM games and all the MM games except III.- Although I wish I could bring myself to burning MM IX Sad Eyes

I prefer Might and Magic VII over all the others. It is closely followed by Heroes of Might and Magic II and the the Complete edition of HoMM III and MM VI compete for the third place.

It depends. HoMM V I would probably not talk too much about, being as what really drags me into the MM world is the storyline and Ubisoft and Nival haven't exactly done a good job there.
When it comes to the old Might and Magic games I would point out how fantastic the storyline is. How close to being believable it is, how it all fits together, how wit is like reading an interactive book, how I've only found 3 - 5 typos in Might and Magic VI + VII, the Easter eggs, the races, the incredible music and how the game can be nice and relaxing, horrifying and adrenaline pumping and warn them, that it is easy to forget that you need to sleep and eat!
HoMM Would include the same points regarding the storyline, although it is less fantastic than Might and Magic's storyline. In addition to that there would be the game play, the atmosphere (especially of HoMM II), the heroes, the humour and that while MM tells the small story of why, HoMM tells the big story of how. The games have gone together up to this point and that has been one of the strong sides of both games.

Might and Magic X is a must Big Grin

I would like them to catch the old points again. Make the story believable, try to get out of the dragon messed universe Nival has created, get text messages into the game again (those who don't want them could tick some box to get rid of them) and stop trying so desperately to make the universe "dark and mature" when the only result is that it is no different from other games and ridiculous.

The game and the game system itself, better AI, make the game run smoothly rather than slower and slower the longer you play and make it easier to navigate in the underground.

*This does not include HoMM V and MM IX.

Hi, Raide, I'll throw in my answers too. Smile

My first contact with the series was in 2000 when I just bought my very first PC. I went to a local computer store looking for a game to buy and I immediately noticed the cool box cover of Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer. The screenshots on the back looked impressive interesting so I bought the game and couldn't stop playing for 2 weeks. Eventually after I finished it, I sought out all other games of the M&M brand - at the moment I have all of them which makes a nice collection, and on top of it the Dark Messiah modded PC. Big Grin It's funny that in the beginning I disliked HoMM3 as from my point of view it was a boring game from a 3rd person perspective and absolutely nothing like M&M RPG. I changed by mind a few years later and became a hardcore fan. I joined the M&M community in 2001, IIRC.

The question about a favorite game is a tough one as I tend to change my answer all the time. Razz Still, I'd always choose a M&M RPG game over a HoMM game so - I choose Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor. It is a must-have-to-play for every RPG fan out there, a real classic.

I'd tell those noobs that if they're looking for some of the finest RPG and TBS games with a medieval setting, lots of hack and slash and some sci-fi elements, play Might and Magic and Heroes. Smile

I'd love to see a stunning Might and Magic X - a big hit, very well designed, gorgeous graphics and an intriguing storyline. Of course, I expect the continuation of Heroes series too, and it would be cool if there were more spin-offs, like Dark Messiah action RPG, perhaps even a MMORPG. But Might and Magic X above all.

Sum Might and Magic in three words? Might and Magic, couldn't have said it better. Razz

Oh that would have to be when i was visiting somewhere and then saw someone i knew playing heroes of might and magic 2.. it looked really interesting. But it wasn't my first hands on event. That was later and that was Heroes of Might and Magic 3.. and boy was that fun Big Grin

I'm going to have to say HoMM 5. Story wise and gameplay wise it has so much more.
The storyline of the previous games never appealed to me much and by HoMM 4 it was just muddled up beyond sense and didn't seem serious nor interesting. And i must say that the HoMM 5 background was well developed and offered up many possibilities and the different faction backgrounds were nicely done as well Smile

Campaign wise.. Well the first one was okay.. good at times but other times the way it was delivered made you cringe, yeah it was that bad, but at the same time it did offer some interesting tidbits.. although i never got beyond the second mission with academy where i had to retake the silver cities.. got stuck trying to outnumber a city which had plenty of troops and plenty of time to grow Frown

But with the expansions there was great improvement.. although still some problems, like voice actors changing.. and still some bad performances here and there.. although great ones were there as well (Alaric !)

And gameplay wise ? Well i liked the skill system a lot more than the previous iterations and really felt that it added flavour to the game plus battles were quite fun and generally the gameplay felt better to me than the previous iterations

Dunno actually, but i would probably talk about the gameplay and the music.. and the campaigns.. although i would warn them that the ones in the start are quite.. well not so good as in the expansions.

quote:

Tough one.. well in direction of HoMM VI of course :P But probably expanding on the skill system of HoMM V and making an even better campaign, a more.. Epic one ! But also expanding upon the units, giving additional upgrades was a great start i would say, oh and make combat more bloody ! anyways if i were to continue it would turn into a suggestion thread :P

Sum up Might and Magic in 3 words.

Custard and Cream ! .. oh wait .. no.. Uhmm.

Ghouls n Goblins ! .. no not that either...

Archbishop Alaric ! no that was only two words..

Well i suppose Might and Magic is the best way to sum it up in three words :P

How is orbiT supposed to see a thread if it's stickied? How? Blink

Anyway. Those are questions, and orbiT must answer them. In order. Smile

-A friend introduced me to heroes of might and magic II when I was 7(or 8,9,10 I don't know... it was a long time ago anyway)

-I played hommII a lot. HommIII just didn't feel the same. I never played the rpgs. Homm4 was strange. Homm5 had nice things, but it runs to slowly on my pc for me to use it(and my pc is way above the required specs). So HommII with is still my favourite. The campaigns are not really good(archaic pc storytelling...), but any scenario can be played for hours and hours. The "painted" graphics, despite being old(is it 15 years??? Blink) still look pretty, and the opera soundtrack in the cities is something unusual(only game I've ever seen where the Audio options are Midi/Stereo/Stereo-With opera, visualised by one small loud speaker/two larger loudspeakers/two larger loudspeakers with a wagner style opera woman Big Grin )

-It is a turn based strategy game that lets you control large armies and do magic and stuff. It's awesome. All the cool kids are doing it.

-Take the skillsystem from hommV, the town screen system from hommIII, the magic and creatures and the painted graphics from hommII, drop the 3D(it's not needed and has no impact on the game whatsoever), and put performance high on the list. There should be as little waiting as possible when playing. That would make me buy.

-Heroes, creatures, magic.

But arturchix, you're a mod, you know that a stickied thread becomes automatically invisible.
They're only at the top of the forums to make the place look pretty. Roll Eyes
