Yes, most lower buget, quicly made animes use repeated scenes, as do most any other types of hand drawn animated things...
And the big eyes, small mouth and nose look is not atributed to all animes, some have a more realistick look, and most non-anime animations use big eyes as well... if some of you don't like animes it's fine, but don't go around saying that "anime watcher = nerd" and that they are stupid, maybe you don't like the anime styles(yes there is more than one big eyed almost invisible nose style) but you must admit that at least some are very beautyfull and took years upon years to make, some are series some are movies, some are better some are not, don't go comparing everything to western animation's best when you know that we have lots of productions that suck incredibly.
Erm... rant over...

BTW I advise caution when concidering watching Elven Lied

Pre-Note: Dont take anything i write as agressive ... i dont write intending to insult or be mean or anything, but it does often come out that way. Just trying to share my opinion thats all.

Isnt that pretty hypocritical... just because disney has good animators doesnt mean the standard all cartoons are generally better? load of cr_p. You seemed to have based your opinions of a whole genre on a few from each in both situations.

And I will again say that those are truely master pieces in my opinion, when I draw stuff I continually have this tendency to picture or compare it to some old disney cartoon, even if doesn't have any connection to it whatsoever.

Except for few parts in Howls moving castle and spirited away all ghibli films are hand drawn traditionally & waterpainted. So yeah i did read carefully (...but i am known for seriously screwing up like this :P).

You didnt say it, but you made the comparison between the two genres animations techniques. Perhaps it would help you appreciate anime if you know some of the history of it... Jap Anime started out as cheap alternative to film making costing only $10000 to make films usually using avant garde animation techniques & stories by people who would in our society would simply not have the chance to get their stories across. Now compair that to disneys rediculous budget for making a film. Simply put, dont bother making comparisons between animations of the two...

We know disney films are well animated & they came out with alot of impressive animation techniques not used elsewhere, but i would trade good animation for a good story anyday (berserk has worst animation ever, but one hell of a good story). Originally anime's were never intended to appeal to the majority and just intended to be used to help a producer into the movie making industry so he could get into making real films (refering to the creator of ghost in a shell, see avalon for a film directed by him), but anime has developed a fan base along the way.

It doesnt matter anyway anymore, these days budgets are much larger(due to increasing popularity) and now anime is on par with any disney film made as howls moving castle & spirited away have shown.

Also Princess Mononoke is a Disney & Studio Ghibli film, as well all film made by ghibli studio from 1989 and onwards from what i understand of their deal, disney tried to make ghibli cut alot of it so the rating could be made PG rather than M... it wouldve sucked horribly if they had their way. Mononoke also became the highest grossing movie in Japan until Titanic took over the spot several months later.

The only disney film i can think of that i liked was The Emperor's New Groove... that made me laugh. I used to have alot of early disney stuff on video tape laying about the house, but i find them all no comparison to modern cartoons & anime.

edit:
venom, the big eyes & so on are actually a large part of what makes a anime a anime, as a anime is mainly a cartoon who's drawing style is based upon manga... and in turn manga's main feature of its drawing style is the exageration of characters features and actions.. e.g. if someones stong they have thunder thighs and when they cut someone thye drown in blood & so on...

Yeah, I know, but the big eye look is not inherited by all animes, some have ridiculously huge eyes and small noses and mouths and maybe that's what most people hate, but most have a more realistic look to them even though the proportions are still exagerated.

How is that hypocritical? Let me put it this way - one of the biggest and most impacting Anime of all, the Pokemon, is a load of ****. It has NOTHING.

Uh, no offense, but you didn't read it carefully because if you did you wouldn't have brought up computer graphics in the first place.

History, well I don't really care. I could start about how disney started it all out but it has little to do with the subject.

You'd trade animation for story? Well, let's see Mononoke story, I saw the cartoon and it looked like it came straight out of a drug addict's mind (for example that when the forest keeper or whatever head starts to expand when blown apart), but I can see if some people want eccentric scenarios so even things such as wolf heads running around biting stuff are welcome.

The Emperor's New Groove is pretty new, a lot from the old school disney is torn from it. But in cartoons like Excalibur the characters are literary infused with life, when I first started to learned italian (3-4 yrs old) their gestures and reactions alone were enough for me to catch onto the meaning of the words.

The only anime I can stand and actually don't mind is from the Namco fighting series, Soul Calibur and Tekken. Although you can still notice the anime influence, their designers butchered the style of its.. shortcomings, as I see them, and made the characters a lot more appealing in my opinion.

Aww WTF Pokemon? Ur taking Pokemon as a representative for animes? Are you seriously so hatefull towards animes that you would choose the worst examples of it to ilustrate it? And what does the fact that Pokemon was so big around the world prove? That people are idiots... or... that children rly like Pokemon a lot, i mean it's an anime directed towards kids

If you say "Pokemon", then I say "Reality TV". We can scrape the bottom of the barrel all day.

I do not know about most you here.

But, I did draw western-like(cowboys) cartoons.

I barely remember it all. I think it was in the simple newspaper strip type. I studied the way the Lucky Luke's very small storyline type books.

I specialized in the town fights-Sheriff and deputies trying to stop robbers and thieves.

One day, I swear, that I saw someone on tv, whom took, somehow, my drawings and, completed the whole suite of drawings needed to animate the characters into a Lucky-Luke animé look-alike show. It lasted only 5 to 10 seconds though. Long enough for me to realize what was going on.

Man. That felt so good. To see my own drawings come to life onto the silver screen like that.

I do own a VHS-VCR copy of one of the Lucky-Luke's many television episodes of that animé series. I think that I will pop it in and laugh my heart out. That animé is so funny that your tummy will hurt after it all.
