Try Princess Mononoke

I'll try to find the titles you suggested, however, I strongly doubt my view of the whole genre can change based on 2-3 films Razz

Akira, Mononoke, Spirited Away, Berserk, and Nausicaa are all good. Oh, and whatever you do, don't watch any of them dubbed except for possibly Mononoke and Akira (Akira got dubbed multiple times, one is good).

Hmmm I actually think I saw Mononoke. Is it the one where there's some corrupted worm thing in the start that consumes everything? And sometime later the wolf head jumps around and bites stuff? I didn't like it if that's the one you're talking about.

Freedom - a mountain in the distant sky, love in the grass, birds on the vast plains of the sea, fire under the stars
Freedom - I treasure your sight, I follow your sweet sound, I smell your dreams, I taste your tears.

Freedom - how do I define you?

I see you - when I turn away
I hold you -when my hands are full
I kiss you - when you aren't here

Freedom -
Never shall you be more than a name to me

Heh. Don't get me started. You're dealing with a woman who saw Akira in the movie theatres when it first released...

Old favs:
Ah Megamisama
Eva
Escaflowne
Urusei Yatsura
Yu Yu Hakusho
Lain (duh - look at the avatar)
X
Perfect Blue
Kodocha
PATLabor
Ranma
Kite
Nausicaa
Angel's Egg
Kare Kano

... shall I go on?

You know, I've always been fascinated by the high correlation between anime fans and gamers...

I thought Disney was Dubbing Ghibli's Films and bringing them to the US? Or am I just remembering incorrectly?

I'm talking about drawn cartoons, old time disney long-cartoons have been incredibly well drawn (took years to make) and I respect that very much.

Now that does not include any of the new rendered stuff (although I really liked some, like The Incredibles).

I just feel rejection when I see huge eyes, small mouths and noses, weird hair-do's ect.

Sorry for that. To solve this I updated the links so now you get to the AMV page so all you need to do is scroll down choose "Local" and enjoy Cool
Of course you do need to login to the AnimeMusicVideo.org site but it's worth it Smile

What are you talking about, you can get anything here... just order it over the net, its also much cheaper if you get the sets over ebay. Berserk on ebays about 10 to 30 dollars for the whole set where as from ezydvd.com.au its $114... although the quality can vary on some items.

I have:
- Cowboy BeBop (fav by far)
- Noir (i dont like it)
- Escaflowne (series + movie)
- Berserk (complete series)
- Trigun (okay)
- Hellsing (good)
- Vampire Hunter D (Awesome old oldschool anime)
- Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust (not as good as first, although the gfx are pretty impressive for a amime)
- Ninja Scroll 10th Annaversery Ed
- Bleach (just download it... the dvds are a rip off no matter where you get it from)
- Studio Ghibli Collection
(^ be carefull where you buy this from!!!, alot of theme are sh_t pirate rips, audios out of sync & contains only 6 movie rather than all 10 & poor image quality)

Ive also got alot of overseas movies such as Zatoichi, The Ultimate Versus(director's cut, pretty cool), azumi ect...

Theres many more i wanna get but having no money sucks Frown

This has been done... although i still watch them with subs, prefer jap voices.

Also @ infiltrator:
Howls moving castle & spirited away are far better animated than anything ive seen from disney, So's Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust. Also I didnt like Princess Mononoke either... it was too long and boring. Also disney uses alot of computer animation where'as ghibli's movies are much too old to use any (except for a few newer ones.)

You have also made a often misconception that everyone always make about Anime... Anime is not suppose to be a abbreviation of animation.

quote:
Anime definition from dictionary.com:
- a Japanese style of motion-picture animation, characterized by highly stylized, colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sexuality.
- Japanese for "animation," a term that seems to have arisen in the 1970s, apparently based on the Eng. word. Manga (q.v.) is Japanese for "comic book, graphic novel," but anime largely are based on manga and until 1970s, anime were known as manga eiga or "TV manga." The two terms are somewhat confused in Eng.

Its more confusing now that there is japenese anime films that nolonger fit the definition of anime. As far as im concerned anthing with less than a M rating is not anime.

Some of the best animes would have to be (that i havent mentioned yet):
- Akira (I love this film!)
- Neon Genesis
- Spriggin
- Ghost in a shell (other that the mech at the end i dont like)

... ill cut it short there otherwise ill go on forever.

Haven't seen those two. Even if they are animated well, they can't be taken as the standard genre animation because anime as a whole is filled with crappy animations that keep getting recycled over and over and OVER even in the same cartoon. Of course not only anime used recycling. Some Hanna Barbera cartoons also used this cheap move (Scooby Doo comes into mind).

About disney using computers etc. - If you read more carefully, I already said that I'm talking about older, drawn-only cartoons. And I will again say that those are truely master pieces in my opinion, when I draw stuff I continually have this tendency to picture or compare it to some old disney cartoon, even if doesn't have any connection to it whatsoever.

And where did I make the misconception? I never said anywhere that Anime stands for animation, it would be pretty laughable if it did though.
