Tell us a bit about your country and how you think of it. Even if you live in England or America we, or at least I, still want to hear how you think about your country... and perhaps take some pictures you like too Smile

I'll start about my "country" Føroyar or the Faroe Islands.

We are located here:

and the islands are placed in this daggerish way:

We are a small country, don't say anything else to a Faroese with risk for your life Big Grin, belonging to the Danish Kingdom.
We are 50.000 people and are thus no bigger than an average small city. Still most Faroese dream of that one day we'll be free from the Danish Kingdom and 1/4 of us want to take our freedom now right away.
We do however have some problems in that option. The most important, in mine eyes, is that The Danish government is one of the very few countries that ignores the declaration which states that countries with sub - counries are to help them in gaining freedom and, even if the sub - country doesn't want to, make it ready for embracing the world. This the Danish government has never done, but rather ignored when we voted for freedom (51 - 49) in 1946 and when we had the freedom government in 1998 - 2004, I think, they weren't exactly helpfull.
This brings us on to the faroese mentality. During that time the freedom parties agreed since the danes fought against our demands as much as they could without breaking the law to openly. But then suddenly Fogh came to power and he said we could do what we wanted and just had to ask, but still wouldn't actually help us much more than the old Rasmussen, so then all the parties started to fight a lot more about what to do, rather than just doing it... and that is pretty much how we Faroese are. Go against us faroese, threaten us, mock us or attack us and you'l be sure we, almost, stand as one nation. Be helpfull and play you want to help us and then we fight each other and nothing happens.
We are probably most known for our football team and for the fact that we hunt and eat grindahval (forgott the name of that whale).
Other local delicities are half rotten sheep meat called skerpikjøt, a lot of seabirds, blommør (a bit like haggish), baked seabirds and some other kinds of bread.

Now i'll take a few picures and then hope someone else will post a bit of info about his/her countrie... not necessarily long. Just a bit and we allways love pictures.

School is over... One year of freedom and after that it's Uni. 7 years of Uni and then work. 40 years of slavery which culminates in freedom... A few years of forgotten freedom, hidden away from the public eye and then death.- Only God knows what will happen after that.

Feel free to aks me questions about the Faroes...

Else I came to think of that while I wrote this half sleaping yesterday I only told about politics... So I'll tell a bit about the country when I'm eating my breakfast.

Oh and a bit of sales tecnique... hrm hrm:

If you are a tru patriot and think people ought to know more about how your country really is, if you are bored and have nothing to do, if you don't think your country is anything to talk about, then this is the place to say it. Tell us about your country now and you can know that you have done a good deed. Clap

Edit: Only edited in part of your earlier replies here since I removed the crappy posts. - Alder

Ok, more down to eart this time.

We don't only have strange political systems or colonial powers here. THere are too things like musik. In the summer time we have several festivals and it aren't only danish and faroese celecbrities here. We too have had people like shakin STevens, Brian Addams and sissel kirkebø here, and a lot of other celebrities I've long since forgotten the name of Big Grin but it seems like more and more real celebreties come each year, and that those who have been here mostly wish to come back. Else we don't have so many fameous Faroese singers. We perhaps have TEtur Lassen, or how he is called, said to be pretty fameous in the US and has a lot of immitators allready Roll Eyes, Týr is on the way... hope they make it and then perhaps the northerners have heard of Eivør Pállsdóttur.- THe Danish musik minds are at least starting to fall for her.

We have lots and lots of sheep and mot of us know how to butcher one... ok in these days perhaps only half of us.
The most important industry is fishing and fish export, but they are, like allways, dreaming of new industries here...

Well that's it for now. Feel free to write or ask while I'm in school... and perhaps you could try when I'm home too- if you dare Mean Happy

the things we belgiums are most proud of are belgium chocolats, belgium beer( most beer are already been crowned a couple off times best beer of the world) and the invention of french frites( yes i know it says french frites, but that's a mistake made by the americans, the britsh say it alright though, belgium chips.) not sure what to say next about belgium. in flanders al cities have their own dialect of flemisch(dutch). wanna know more about belgium? pm me

It is said we have the oldest "parliament" still in function, as in still using the same building, and it is pretty close to being the oldest "parliament" too, it is called Tinganes and looks like this:

My father worked there untill yesterday.- Just got himself a new job.

What else do we have... Did you know that Lindberg, the first one to fly acroos the Atlantic landed in the Faroes to get extra gas on his way to England... or was it home? There are strangely few people who know that Veryhappy

A little known fact about Føroyar:

On the 12th September 1990 they defeated Austria in a soccer match 1:0.

That's very surprising since it was the Føroyar islands first non-friendly soccer match ever. It inaugurated them on the map of European soccer and even led to the building of the Toftir stadium for home-games.

In Austria it's called the defeat of a century and it is still rumored that every member of the National tem get a apckage of smoked salmon for new-years each year by the Føroyarian tourist office. And the team chief each month.

Sometimes it seems our soocer team hasn't fully recovered from that yet Wink

The Faroese commentators reaction (really ecstatic Big Grin ) on this match, is heard in the intro of the most played faroese football-song, so you're right, it will never be forgotten.

What was the most unexpected result?

This is what I found out on Wikipedia, it could be it:

"In the 1950 World Cup, the U.S. team pulled off one of the greatest upsets in soccer history, handing England its first ever World Cup defeat 1-0, after England had recently beaten the rest of Europe 6-1 in an exhibition match"

Taken from this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_men%27s_national_soccer_team

Shocking indeed... Shady
