here is some stuff that I thoroughly enjoy

<3 Genesis: Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound*, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, A Trick of the Tail, Wind & Wuthering

<3Kevin Ayers: Joy of a Toy*, Shooting at the Moon, Whatevershebringswesing, Bananamour,
The Confessions of Dr. Dream and Other Stories, June 1, 1974 (with Nico, John Cale and Brian Eno)

<3Robert Wyatt: Rock Bottom*, Shleep, CuckooLand

<3Yes: Tales From Topographic Oceans*, Close To The Edge, Relayer

<3King Crimson: In the Court of the Crimson King*, In the Wake of Poseidon, Lizard, Islands

I tried to pick albums that fit more of a fantasy-type mood, or have fantasy like lyrics. I put a star by each album by each band I would suggest first. I dunno, maybe those are good starting points. Not every song on every one of these albums are great but the mood of Kevin Ayers songs for instance, just sounds like great music for the background of fantasy gaming.

Other Notable groups: Camel, The Strawbs, Caravan, Gong, Henry Cow, Magma, Van Der Graaf Generator.

You say you aren't familiar with much of the music I listed? Well, they are all pretty much well known bands with huge followings, definitely worth checking out. Have a good day.

I haven't listened to those, but I'll probably check them out once I move to the UK or trust the internet enough to buy stuff over it.

A good and bloke, with very much of a fantasy feel about him, is Sean Patrick Hannifin, you can find his music here: http://www.wizardwalk.com/home/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=2 and it is free and legal to download. Check out "Hour by Hour" or "Dragon of the Mist".

I see you - when I turn away
I hold you -when my hands are full
I kiss you - when you aren't here
- Freedom -
Never shall you be more than a name to me

I am quite familiar with Yes, I love a lot of their stuff. I prefer their earlier stuff in general (The Yes Album and Fragile; have you heard those?), but I agree the albums you listed have more of a fantasy atmosphere. Musically I find them a bit random, lacking in cohesion. All the same some segments are quite good Big Grin

Tales from Topographic Oceans, for instance. Four twenty minute songs. Googly I don't mind the length, (I listen to Gustav Mahler, enough said Big Grin) but a lot of it feels like filler. And yet some moments are really fantastic. It's music I don't listen to very often because it's almost an ordeal to go through, but it is quite gratifying in its own way.

But I used to listen to Yes a lot in the background when I played Heroes. Cool Some of it really fits the atmosphere.
