Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease? We can even pretend a lot of the stupid stuff in HoMM 4 didn't happen and just carry on.

If you are a fan of Might and MAgic, then there might be a bit of hope. It actually looks as though that one will happen
For heroes, I'm afraid we are doomed. They will not reverse to the old story, but will rather keep the dragons and and stuff of this "new" one. But you might like the idea of this mod: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4211096804/m/9341015236/p/1 I see you - when I turn away I hold you -when my hands are full I kiss you - when you aren't here - Freedom - Never shall you be more than a name to me |

You can cry all you want, it is not going to happen for several reasons. One of the main ones that Ubisoft has already invested a lot of effort into this new world.
Another one is probably that they know they won't be able to carry on with the old one.. and thirdly not everyone liked that one.. got a bit too silly with heroes 4.. In any case they don't have an incentive to do it either since Heroes of Might and Magic 5 actually did pretty well along with it's expansions. ----------------------------

Depressingly few folks agree with you on that last point though
*runs away before Dane sends tanks after the heretic* I see you - when I turn away I hold you -when my hands are full I kiss you - when you aren't here - Freedom - Never shall you be more than a name to me |

Huh.. so you wouldn't say 2 million copies at the very least isn't good ? I recall ubisoft being greatly surprised at it doing that well, plus it did manage to expansions which is pretty clear evidence that it was doing well, otherwise you don't waste money on stuff like that if there aren't anyone to buy it.
Of course you might have been joking.. ----------------------------

The story and the game aren't the same things
The luck of Heroes is that very few games now at days have good a story, and few fans demand a good story. I know you don't agree, but that was the general opinion if you dig into the older threads. Overwhelmingly many of those who played HoMM V never played the ones before, or only met IV - which had its bright moments with Gauldoth, but mostly was bad. So marketing wise and as a game it was superb. As a story for an audience which usually had longer educations, were academical children or just enjoyed to read books it wasn't what they expected.- And this is a generalisation, I know, but you have to go with the majority when dealing with "groups". But HoMM no longer belongs to the old fans, since they are the minority. Most of the new fans just don't care about the story or have anything to compare it to - although many of those also complained about the story. I see you - when I turn away I hold you -when my hands are full I kiss you - when you aren't here - Freedom - Never shall you be more than a name to me |

Oh i am not saying it was superb.. but it wasn't bad either, the problem was in the way it was delivered among other things, and the whole isabel deal.. well it was a bit contrived, i mean it definately had it's good bits and the fact that it did manage to keep me interested speak in it's favour.
And the story did get better with the expansions.. much better. Because among other things the deliver got better. And i think that is what most of the newcomers you described found to be problematic.. me as well, because if the delivery of the story sucks.. then the story can be the best one in the world.. people will still think it sucks. Also you have to remember that of those on the forums, they are only a small representation of all the fans.. who knows about the other thousands who bought the game ? And the old fans ? They will always complain no matter what ----------------------------

The older fans usually don't leave entirely after having been active for well over 10 years
If you haven't noticed, then there are extremely few active oldboys here. I and Phoenix (if I don't mix him with someone else, hard to keep track of them) are the only ones here. Znork, Oak, Arthur, Socketboy and Lab hang around here now and then, but it's nothing compared to the olden days. And it is totally nothing compared to before 3DO went bust, you should have seen the old boards. Always activity, always stuff going on, multiple regulars and I only experienced the boards when no game was scheduled to be released. Even the complaints are void of hope and feelings for the game. I don't know if you have heard of the Forge Wars in connection with Armageddons Blade, but then some fans actually sent death threats to the developers and the forums were all one big flame war with the potential of igniting WW III... Almost And the ones on the forums are the die hard fans, loose them and you loose one leg of your marketing strategy. I see you - when I turn away I hold you -when my hands are full I kiss you - when you aren't here - Freedom - Never shall you be more than a name to me |

Oh things are definately not lively around here i'm afraid. Just not much to build it on and all the activity seems to be around on the fan forums and such and not here. A patch might liven it up or the announcement of HoMM VI, but otherwise it is up to keep it going.. which you should know i am trying to in the HoMM V section.. It all depends on the people and the game..
But let us wait and see.. perhaps ubisoft has something up it's sleeve yet ----------------------------

A patch won't bring the oldies back, HoMM VI might bring some of them back for a time. MM X will bring most of them back right away, since that would mean that Ubisoft has to focus on the story
I think all of us try/have tried now and then, but ultimativly only Ubisoft and Barack Obama can bring about change there. The big problem is that all the mods don't have their base here - which I frankly think is an idiotic mistake of Ubisoft, they would score extreemly many points by opening a forum or two for the mods - and that we only are 3 - 4 people who post anything here, since the game just doesn't inspire the same kind of stuff the old ones did. However, I do have some ideas as to what should be done to get folks back here... It just will need strategy, cooperation and some folks working together. I call it... Operation Light I will open a new thread, throw in a few ideas and pop in again on Thursday, being as I'm away till then. Actually I'll just PM you, scheming and plotting in the open looks kind of stupid. I see you - when I turn away I hold you -when my hands are full I kiss you - when you aren't here - Freedom - Never shall you be more than a name to me |

Oh alright, and yeah Ubisoft needs a place for maps and scenarios and stuff like that.. Would help a lot i imagine.

There is one: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/9211039784
I was thinking of propper mods. There are several for Might and Magic VI - VIII and many for HoMM III, IV and some lesser ones for HoMM V. I see you - when I turn away I hold you -when my hands are full I kiss you - when you aren't here - Freedom - Never shall you be more than a name to me |

Huh.. didn't know that place existed.. but more a place for people to place their maps and such was my thought, within the might and magic site.. Oh well. I still think HoMM V is great and it's storyline as well
