Anyone remember Ninja_Kn1ght's thread about PSN's upcoming reality show casting call? Linky I applied as soon as I saw it, and later forgot about it, but I just got a call today from them saying that they were very interested in my application, and would love to have a skype webcam interview this Thursday. Is that exciting or what?! Big Grin

The little phone interview was incredible, I was comfortable and we were both very excited about the webcam interview on Thursday. I really am looking forward to it and hope that I can appear on the show!

I've been playing my Xbox 360 so much, looks like I need to get back to my PS3 and freshen up a bit. Razz Any advice as o what questions they might ask? I'm confident going into it and I think I've got a great shot at it, but I still would like some ideas as to what they might ask.

If I get on the show, I want all of you to watch me. In Love

So if you get on the show do they sit you all in a room and make you work 14 hours a day playing the same level? Because that's what testers do...good luck!

Unfortunately that would require me to have a PS3 so I will have to pass.

Speaking of reality shows, how did yours and Brooke's Wipeout audition go?

You don't like the PS3? Frown You won't watch me? Frown lol it's ok, I understand. Maybe it will end up on youtube somehow. Then you'll watch me, right? In Love

I love my PS3. Big Grin Granted, I like my Xbox 360 more, but I still love my PS3. Smile

Thanks for all the encouragement, everyone. Glomp We'll see what happens, I hope I make it. I just can't manage to get off my 360, that's the only problem. I told myself I was going to practice some of my PS3 games today, but I ended up playing Halo 3 instead. Couldn't help myself. Too Happy

I can't say that I'm going into this expecting to win it all. Sure, I would love it, but what are the chances that I'd actually win it? You know? I'm optimistic, and love to win, but I'm not going to let that thought dominate me so I won't have fun. Heck, I don't even know if I made the show or not, so first I will focus on the interview, and then I will start thinking about winning.

Melonie, I have to agree with you. I have a 360, and I like the shooters on the console, but I have been playing My new PS3 more tha ever. I also have an original 60 GB from launch, which I wish to hold on to.I may want to get your PSNiD, and may be we can play sometime, even though you'd more than likely stomp me, since I am not that good on online games. And plus, good luck on the PSN show. I know you'll do great.

It's just a temp position anyway. Razz Not like I'm making a career out of testing. I just have a passion for video games and would love to get involved. If I make it on the show, I'll be very happy whether I win or not. It's the involvement in the industry in some way that makes me so excited. Big Grin

People can watch me play games on PSN, how cool would that be? In Love

From what I hear, testing is a good way to get your foot in the door of the games industry. I would have signed up if I was 21, but alas I am merely 20 in a week.Good luck in your interview! Thumbs Up

Lol, beat me to it. I was going to say, "All I learned from being a tester and a lead was that 10+ hours a day on a single level gives you a healthier appreciation that being a good gamer does not make you a good tester."

Anyway, my own bitterness about 12hrs a day seven days a week work aside, good luck with the interview! Depending on what company you get in with, they treat their testers well (relatively speaking, still long hours.) I know a guy who's a contract tester with Sony, and they are having him work with a company in Seattle and he's having a ball (really not sure if I'm supposed to list the specific company, so I'll leave it at that.)

So, yeah, good luck on it all! Smile

That's kind of a misconception. It depends on the company and what you want to do. I worked for a 3rd party tester which means my prospects of getting *out* of QA was slim to none. However, we worked with a company that taught their QA guys scripting, opening up the door for them to transition into level design. From there people have stepped up through different design positions to eventually lead design (Cliff Blezinski, anyone?)

QA gets a bad rap - some people sneer at them as 'not being real dev', but they are absolutely essential and hold quite possibly one of the most important jobs in the company.

Weasel - didn't Cliff start out doing mods on some game? I remember some horribly lame magazine cover with him, Stevie Case, John Romero and some other guy wearing long Matrix trenchcoats and the headline was 'the BAD BOYS of gaming' or something like that. Maybe it was something different considering Stevie Case is a woman Smile

Damn man, you're getting me all misty eyed and nostalgic. I tell yah, one of the best feelings in the world is finding that A Crash that completely ****s up a saved game, and is easy to do if you get anywhere beyond basic gameplay, and that you logged it, or your testers under your direction logged it...

So, anyone know if any companies are hiring for QA Test Leads? Too Happy

I don't remember, I just know he did level design for UT, and now he's lead designer of the game that made them all rich. Again. So, yeah, made them all even richer than they were before. And while I can't honestly say I read that article you're talking about, I've heard the phrase "bad boys of gaming" before.

It's almost funny, but borderline sad how fast Romero nose dived. But remember, he'll make us all his bitch! Big Grin

I'm sure it's a fine system. I just don't currently see any reason to have both it & a 360. Pretty much everything I want to play on the PS3 is also available on the 360.
