In another thread, it was brought up that the forums are not so busy as they used to be. I agree and it is just not this forum here on Ubi, it at least 5 of them if not more.
Now some are burned out as they are of IRC, but I think it's something else. What was the last AAA title Ubi released? Far Cry 2? HAWX? Ubi does not have anything to be released any time soon and as such, no one is here to talk about any upcoming releases. Part of that is due to Ubi being tight lipped about what is in the works from my point of view. People keep asking about particular games, but no information other than: "there is no information outside of the financial report at this time." Thoughts? Most people around here have more sense than to base anything they do around the release of a ubisoft game.

Our forum has gone through many periods of awkward silence. It's not necessarily anything wrong with Ubisoft. Rather, I think it is more a lack of topics to talk about. More of our community members would rather just lurk than engage in some pointless babble.
However, that doesn't mean that the forum is dead. Hell, even Mike Volta popped up (and I haven't seen him around here in ages). I think we also had a surge in members when the Frag Dolls were having a casting call. A lot of hopefuls join the forums and pretend to care about being a part of the community and the team, yet they fail to follow through if they don't quite make the cut this time around. Just a sign of character, I suppose. Though, with two members having left recently...we could be facing another casting call soon (and thus, another surge of hopefuls). Thanks to Phin for the sig! As you can see ERRR, I have been around these forums a long time. Ubi has changed over these years. Now I do not wait around here just for a game to come out as some people seem to do. I come to the forums to converse on topics I find interesting, no matter what the game or what is in the works. Early on, I came here to find out news for GR.net, but that no longer works. We still get news before it is officially released somehow.
As Pino pointed out, a lack of topics has played into how dead the forums are, but if you notice, forums pick up when the developer/publisher actually talks about the games they have in the works. As noted, Ubi is notoriously tight lipped nowadays. Ubi does not really take a proactive interest in those who will buy the games they create as other companies do. There are those who will lurk no matter how long they have been part of the forums, even if they do not post but once in a while. They may be bored or there may not be anything that they want to talk about, as pointed out to Stonelance, it's a two way street and they can start a topic. Ubi's releases or lack thereof don't really have anything to do with how busy this forum is.
Outside of the odd stranger coming on here & asking about the next Clancy shooter, hoping that the Frag Dolls will spill a bunch of secrets about it, Ubi games aren't really a point of discussion around here. As I have discussed with him in IRC, I'm with Stonelance in that there's just no interesting threads here. I hardly bother clicking on most of the threads because they're either a) not of interest to me or more often b) some random stupid YouTube video. |

I have never come to this forum for Ubi games. Granted I love their games even though they screw the pooch more than half of the time. I come because I honestly like conversing or whatever with the people here.
There have not really been any Interesting topics going on here since the Election last year. We had a full forum during the runup of that but I think some of the people decided to leave when they realized that the political views of many here did not line up with their own. It might sound far fetched, but if you were to go back and read some of those old threads you would see that the people who are not here were pretty active in many of those topics. Since I have been here though I think this is at least the third time the forums have died for a while. There is usually a dead time when the girls are off in competition also. Look at it this way. Most of us have met and hung out with each other once or more than once. So really we are as a forum a step up from a vast number of other forums. We actually consider each other friends or close associates. That being the case, all relationships have those moments of silence where nothing is said or needs to be said. Maybe we are just in the middle of one of those moments. |

I'd agree with these sentiments. I think that, while I'm not near anybody so I don't come to events, it's really great that the Dolls and the community really try and get together and hang out or game online, etc. I really like this place, and that's one of the reasons. I will say that at first I was pretty put off. There were 2 or 3 guys here that made it very difficult to want to post or feel comfortable posting. JB mentioned that in another post. For a few months I lurked because I didn't want to incur the wrath of those couple of people. Then, I grew a pair (no offense to anyone) and just decided that I didn't care about those 2 or 3 people and that what they said wasn't a personal vendetta, that's just how they were. Those people are gone now (or at least aren't posting) and I really like the people here. I think the quiet times are due to a couple of things. Some of them have already been mentioned, but what I also think is that the Dolls came down hard on the few trolls that existed and those people weren't expecting it. From what I gathered when I started here was that the guys had been around for a while and they had always been that way. It seemed, though, that the FDs decided enough was enough and the forums were hurting because of them so they told the trolls to knock it off and the trolls didn't like it. I think the dynamics of the forums are changing and that the folks who are still here from before are missing some of their old pals who left, while the rest are trying to figure out the new dynamics. It'll pick back up. |

It's our way of filtering out d-bags and punks. I'm glad you grew and pair and faced the music. Thanks to Phin for the sig! Live GT: l337pino Steam ID: 1337pino |

If you are referring to who I think you are referring to, then I don't think what the dolls said had any impact. Actually it probably just made it worse. I hate to mention this, but the last time the forums died down it was when most of the girls had stopped reading or posting in the forums. When it was brought up Jinx flipped out (at the time they were busy travelling, but I doubt that is the case this time). However, the result was that the girls started posting more and then the forum picked back up again. I think the circumstances are a little different this time, but I am sure it is a contributing factor. I know for several of us we feel like we don't relate to the new crowd as much. When the forums were started most of the main active members were in school, had part time jobs, or jobs with weird hours. Mike once commented to me that we were the only two with regular 9-5 jobs. That isn't the case any more. Most of us are out of school and have full time lives, girlfriends\boyfriends and just no time left to come here, especially if there is nothing worth talking about. |

This always happens after PAX. There is a huge build up then after PAX things slow down.

Nothing to talk about so why bother cluttering up the forum?

I do not come to this forum for games, though I do go to the GR, iL2, SH, SC and R6 forums for those games. This one is different though. I just find it intriguing. I like the premise behind the Frag Dolls and what they do.
Still, this forum is more active than most of them around here, even if it has slowed down some. "Do not build your community around a game.... I find that the majority of people I liked or at least valued what they had to say on the forums either don't post much anymore or left completely. I can't be bothered to get to know the new faces, or those who are now the "core" members of the forums these days. That is just me, but it also seems that way for some of the older members as well.
Stones point about the OG's moving on is also a very valid view on it in my opinion. |

It's some of the "oG's" that kill the spirit of this forum for me. Especially the whole nice to your face but a **** when behind the computer.
All the new members seem nothing but nice to me. |
