Domain Names expanding
The next internet gold rush starts in 3..2..1... I can already see how this could work: Forums.fragdolls Jinx.fragdolls Valkyrie.fragdolls etc |

How would it not work?
This could really open up a whole range of domain names, instead of shoehorning everyone into a couple of different ones. Instead of trying to get creative just so you can get a dot-com name (and many businesses have actually given themselves bizarre names just because of this), it gives people a lot more flexibility. Let's say that you have a consulting business - Expo's Consulting. You go to register Expoconsulting.com, but it's already taken. You could change the name of your business, give it a more creative and unique name. Or, with the new rules, you could register something like expo.consulting. Besides, the .xxx domain was never actually made available. Porn sites wanted that domain name, but that domain was rejected by the ICANN in 2007. |

I loved how they lobbied for this. "It's a basic human right" was the argument they made. Of course it's a basic human right that comes with a 150,000 dollar registration fee to ICANN. So ICANN probably didn't feel too bad about bringing liberty to the masses.
Myself, I think this could get real obnoxious real fast. McDonalds.Hamburger is just kind of an insult to our intelligence. "I often quote myself. It adds spice to my conversation." --George Bernard Shaw |

Yes. I heard about this on G4's Feed. The forums are more of a sub-cat of Ubi, but the (FD name).fragdolls could work. Expensive, though.

We can do this already! : forums.fragdolls.com jinx.fragdolls.com valkyrie.fragdolls.com That aside. I think it will be awesome. Just imagine all the creative names! f**k.sh*t, sh*t.sh*t, sh*t.f**k, whatisthissh*t.f**k, wantto.f**k I had to put in asterisks for obvious reasons. :-)
Assuming of course, that .consulting is not taken, and someone else didn't grab expo.consulting . The same problem applies. I also foresee a slight problem with various browsers that auto add the .com, or auto search, when no common TLD is put in the address bar. Paying fat loot for a TLD and then browsers working against you? Also potential for abuse by domain parkers and "intentional mistyping of domain name" snatchers. There is a huge market for domain names that are commonly mistyped for popular websites. Sounds like a big mess of suck. I'd love to have my capital.zero domain to compliment capitalzero.net . That would be cool. -- :wq |
