I got to watch a couple of former community members try it out last year at an expo up here in Toronto & neither of them were impressed (nor was I from watching it) but that's not really the type of game that a three minute hands-on can give you a good feel for & there's also been a year of work done on it since so a lot may have changed.

Is that a public Beta? or is it just testers involved?

Public. It's given with pre orders. I also here a few sites like IGN and Fileplanet are hooking people up.

Anyway, this game is sexy. It's a much better version of City of Heroes, which happens to be my favorite MMO of all time, so I'm very pumped.

Finally caved in and preordered this online last night via Gamestop's digital service. Gamestop was offering access to the early start program, which starts today, as well as flight at level 1 (since you normally don't get travel powers until level 5).

I had a love/hate relationship with the closed beta, and actually swore the game off for two months. But I gave the beta another shot when they opened it to the public and was really enjoying it again.

So, anyone else planning on picking it up?

The character creator is so damn deep. I've had my early start code for over an hour now, and I've spent that whole time customizing my character.

The game at first was fun and has some nice twists from CoH. The end game was prety lackluster with it being dominated by either CC and regen in the arenas or just smashing your damage abilities. They boosted everyone to 40 at the end of the game and it really didn't seem like it was worth trying to get to end game.

Their nemesis creator was pretty cool but I dont foresee it being that awesome once you have been ambushed for the 100th time.

Crafting was pretty blah and mundane. Endless grinding and breaking of items. In fact you don't even need to make items to level you just break them down. The only time you make something is if you want it. In my eyes this pretty much defeats the purpose of crafting.

Unlike CoH this game was not bad on the leveling even after the XP nerf. They have a decent amount of quests that get you along. The only problem with some of them is that they are collection quests with little of the needed item, long respawn times, and lots of people waiting for them. Usually this was not a problem with kill quests (there are a few exceptions but not enough to make a fuss).

Overall it is better than CoH except I believe they took some stuff OUT of the character creation from game to game. There may also feel like more in CoH because they have been patching stuff in as well.

I like it enough that I can see it being my MMO of choice until Star Wars: TOR comes along and destroys my life entirely.

On a side not, I just saw an Inspector Gadget. This character creator is a delight.

Sure man. Lets **** some villains up! I do really like how after certain missions things change to represent what you did in the world ( I know it just puts you into a new instance) but it makes you feel like you are making a difference in the world.

They totally took a dump on this game with the last two patches. Frown

I decided to hold my purchase to see what they're going to do in the coming month. In its current state, this game is no longer fun for me.

What's your character's name? Apparently I can only send super group invite to characters, and not master accounts.

Hmm, according to Cryptic Studio's website if you've got a six-month or lifetime subscription to Champions Online you're in the running for the Star Trek Online beta.

I played Champions Online through Closed Beta - Open Beta - Head Start.

I have to admit it has some great additions from other MMO's like WAR's PQ and Scenario system (level from PvP starting at Lv5).

But, i believe that Champions is way to close to a CoX clone then a stand alone MMO. The missions (mostly instanced and inside of some far off building) are basically the same as the ones from the 2 CoX titles, grab the mission, run in and kill some henchmen, fight the boss and dip. No deviation at all except from the outdoor mission which kind of force you to find new instances if they happen to be packed with people camping the spawn.

I would have played the game if there was more diversity, something different that all new MMO's should try and have.

Forgot to add, in Headstart weekend there were already multiple players at max level (40) w/ nothing to do.
