I don't need a movie to work out. Music is all I need. I can run a 4min. 50 second mile time. So, getting through 4-5 miles doesn't take long and I'm done. So now I run the stairs at the park. Some odd 120 one way. Whew. That kicks my ass for real. But I love it.

I watch movies on my laptop while I'm on my treadmill at home. It's friggin' perfect... a 2-hour movie, split into four 30 minute workouts fits one full week of running, so I knock out an extra film a week. I've watched Superbad, Grindhouse (both films), Kramer vs. Kramer, My Left Foot (DDL is GOD)... this week, I am going crazy -- I'm watching this film Begotten, which looks like it was filmed in the 1920's. It's really avant-garde/experimental... it's a silent B&W film. Basically, God disembowels himself, is rescued by Mother Earth and they together bear the Son of Man... we're talking some really ucked up shih! Brofase would love it.

Trendmill at home = no motivation to run but that may be just me.

I've been going to Gold's Gym too for a few years but I still have a long way to go before I reach my goals.

I can totally relate to Mischief's experience. We have small TVs built into the trendmills at our gym so it's good or bad depending on what I'm watching. Recently, I've been watching Family Guy at the gym so that's not so good because I'll be laughing while I'm trying to run hard. Rocky 3 was the perfect workout movie as it had great music for running. In general, any sort of action/adventure movie motivates me to run harder.

I got motivated by paying a foolishly large amount of cash to a trainer/nutritionist to kick my wife and I's butts for 24 weeks. Meal plan, weights and cardio. Inspirational because I don't want to waste the $$, and because without a doubt, the results we've gotten have exceeded expectations. Tough at first, but now it's not so bad (we're at about week 15).

As far as entertaining myself, yeah pretty much anything to take my mind off the pain and suffering... but I sorta like to push myself like that...

I don't understand why you people run on treadmills. It is quite possibly the most boring activity ever devised. You're essentially just staring at a wall or some other random object for an hour or so. It's no wonder you need TVs, iPods and the like.

I run on a treadmill so I know how far I've been, if it were up to me I would go outside and run around the block once and say to myself, that was easily 4 miles! lol

It's all about control and privacy for me. I can control the speed, incline, time, distance... all without having to map out a course beforehand. Also, I get to watch movies. Can't do that on the street. Also, the weather is always perfect. Also, I get to know just how many calories and fat calories I am burning, and my heart rate all without having to wear any extra accessories.

Jogging barely burns more calories than briskly walking anyways. Sprinting in intervals is the best way to burn calories. Even when you stop, your cardiovascular system is still working as hard as it was when you were running. It's all about elevating your heart rate as high as you can. Takes far less time as well.

That's not true, there is diminishing returns with cardio -- you need to keep your heart in the target zone, not beating too fast or too slow, but just right, depending on your resting heart rate. Keeping it sustained in the target zone is what every trainer will tell you if you are looking for a good calorie-burning and all-around good for you exercise. On/off sprints/fast runs is good for building endurance. I throw those kinds of things in my runs, too.

I just ran a 5k (my first ever!) yesterday, then went and got drunk for free. Hooray for Portland being the #1 place for runners AND microbrews... if only they would also take advantage of Portland's status as #1 place for strip clubs as well... Shady Big Grin J/K!

Anything LOTR is good for your body. I tend to lean toward martial arts, because gyms just bore the **** out of me.

It's not boring if you know which treadmill to use. If I do use a treadmill I like to pick the one with a view and I don't mean the landscape Shady

I'll kill you.

I find it harder to make myself get out of the house and actually go to the gym, whereas having a treadmill at home makes it easy to go downstairs and run. With video games and a treadmill, I really only need to leave the house once a week to get groceries.
