My WoW account got hacked today! Someone went in and changed my password. I can't even begin to imagine how this would happen.
I feel like my children have been kidnapped. What if I never get them back? Or what if they return with all their gear stripped away? OMG I dont know what to do!

Can't JB do anything about it. He still works for blizzard, right?
You'd think that they could track all the in-game items somehow since they're just pieces of digital information. If each item had an item code, couldn't you theoretically see who has it now? And if so, couldn't you theorize that the person who has it is the person who hacked your account? If they sold it through the auction house then there should be a record of that, too.
I have no idea how that all would technically work so I don't want to shake my fist at Blizzard for not doing it, but it seems like it should be possible. Maybe it's possible but just too much of a pain in the *** and more work than it's worth in the grand scheme of all the other stuff they're juggling. boo.
Brookie, I hope you get your stuff back. Do you have any idea how they hacked it? Was it a matter of getting a password program to guess your password, or what?
Well we got all her stuff back and I'm going to format the laptop tonight just to make sure...no idea how a keylogger got on there since we're generally very good about not downloading random crap and running spyware/virus scans every week, but it happened.
Sorry to hear that happened to your account, Brooke. It happened to my girlfriend earlier this year, but it wasn't a keylogger or virus. It really sucks when this stuff happens.

She wasn't running any odd WoW mods was she? I know there's a lot of them out there and most are safe, but I just don't trust some people.
Rhoulette, that is very technically possible that they can track each individual item and its history. I wouldn't be suprised if they do. The only reason I could think of that they wouldn't do that is that it would increase the amount of data that they have to store by a large amount. I'm guessing if they do track it, then it is only for a certain amount of time.

My friend in QA told me that they do. :b GG, Blizzard.
this sounds like a government operation. "of course we HAVE the info, unfortunately there is now procedure set up to move said data to a different group. Therefor it can not be done."
The emotional gravity and adjectives being thrown about for a bunch of virtual characters somewhat sickens me. Peeps, it's freakin' WOW. They are a bunch of zeros and ones, who you paint to look a certain way. Did South Park teach you nothing?
It's not so much the "game" as the amount of time invested and the hours of working towards a piece of gear/ goal. The fact that someone would violate you and ruin a part of your gaming for their virtual gain is what makes it sick. I'm sorry that you don't seem to have something you spent time on that wasn't maybe considered helpful or useful in a day to day fashion, but if you can't sympathize try some empathy
