I'm sorry if this is a newbie issue, and something you have to deal with often. But as Rhoulette said "we're normal cute girls who love video games". So being a cute girl apparently IS one of the prerequisites for being a Frag Doll? And as everyone has glossed over it, I'm assuming that an overweight and unattractive girl really wouldn't have any chance at becoming a Frag Doll, even if she were an excellent gamer, and had great charisma/knowledge/passion about gaming. As Kezz mentioned, it's also about PR, charisma, and standing out in the crowd as someone to look up to. There's plenty of Plus sized women that have amazing personalities (in fact, quite often weight seems to be proportionate to personality). I'm just not seeing any being signed on to the Frag Doll team.
I guess it's just the exclusivity (or at least my perception of it) that bothers me. Corporate sponsorship for a professional player is a huge advantage, and I think it's unfair that large company would offer this kind of opportunity to a potentially lesser qualified gamer who simply looks better in front of the camera. Although life isn't fair, and as IX said, attractive people are always going to get special treatment over everyone else.
It's just that gaming, to me, has never been about the way you look, especially with the onset of online gaming. It brings people together despite their appearances, not because of it. And I'm not blaming the girls, because this was probably Ubi Soft's decision on who was a FD and who didn't make the team. It's obviously more of a PR ploy than anything else. I just find it somewhat disheartening that they're being made the poster-girls of female gaming, when gaming has nothing to do with your appearance, and yet it does if you want to be a Frag Doll.

Frag Doll

Just so you know, I technically qualify as overweight on the BMI scale, am 32, and am married. I am also not the heaviest Frag Doll and until Kat quit I wasn't the oldest either. Not that I am uncomfortable with myself, because I am not. And I most certainly think I am a great Frag Doll because I can smoke most people in just about every game, let alone get in front of a camera... Just some quick facts for you that I guess your research didn't provide.

The real question is of course, "which frag doll is the hawtest?" ZOMG!

i am. Duh. Also, these threads make my head hurt. I have a feeling no matter the defense, people like this will still hate on us. THere is nothing we can say for you to see our side on things. So lets just leave it at this. If you were a million dollar company looking to sponsor girl gamers or any sport that is. Would you A.) Choose a troll with no social skills but is extremely good at that sport or B.) A girl that is average looking, great at video games, not camera shy, that will promote your product with confidence. Let me know? Also, Ubisoft did pick the first orignal Frag Dolls but for every casting call that came afterwards we chose the girl. We only choose from the girls that apply and if you watch previous casting call videos they are all pretty darn cute. Is it are felt only cute girls apply? Are you saying only good gamers are ugly? We base are decision on who will make the best teammate for us all while fulfiling choice B's requirments. If that means they're extremely cute, well were not the ones to be bias over their looks. We are going to hire them if they are the best fit. ciabats

If gaming isn't about how you look, then why are you complaining\commenting about how they look? Apparently gaming isn't about how you look, as long as you are ugly. Or perhaps the issue is that they are cute AND get paid to play?

I really don't think that weight/beauty has that much to do with it. If the next casting call had a candidate that was a bit bigger and less prettier than the other candidates and the current Frag Dolls shed stand every bit as good a chance as the other girls if she was a good gamer, had a confident and positive personality and was the kind of person that you'd want to represent you ("you" in this case meaning both ubisoft as a company, and females as an under represented gaming gender).

MyInquiry, I think that what you are discussing is a rather common topic whenever anyone is talking about marketing in any business. The fact is that Ubisoft came up with a marketing scheme to promote their products, and that scheme was the Frag Dolls as you see them. I earned a degree in marketing and I can tell you that there are many promotional groups, like the Frag Dolls, used for a variety of products. Ubisoft has chosen, which is their right, on how to promote their properties. It seems to be a regular misconception that these young women are a clan or something of that nature. They are not, they are a product of Ubisoft's marketing department and thus a product of Ubisoft. the kind of comradeship and competition that you are looking for can be found in a number of female-based gaming clans, that are not the exclusive property of ubisoft. The frag dolls are employees, and have been hired to do a job that Ubisoft has a certain criteria for. There isn't a particular issue of wrong or right. These folks have what Ubisoft wants in an employee for the particular job that Ubisoft has envisioned. Plain and simple, there is no argument for "what gaming really is" and the other similar arguments you made previously, in this particular instance.
STOP IT. THIS IS YOUR PAIN. THIS IS YOUR BURNING HAND. IT'S RIGHT HERE.

But it is not FAIR! People without hands should be able to be Frag Dolls too!

Way to not pay attention to your own thread. Normal, cute girls can look like models in photographs and fashion shows when there is a team of people working to make them look that way. Normal girls will also be likely to accept those offers of being made into temporary models to have a team of people work to make the girls look their best. I know I'd love to have the chance. Why even ask a question if you don't really care about the response? I thought you had potential to actually be a listener, but nope. c u l8r h0mez

Weak. In the olden days of video games, people that played were stereotyped as nerds. Now, you are stereotyping a young women with an interest in fashion, and in such a way that attempts to condemn her legitimacy in another aspect of her life. That makes you guilty of the exact same thing you poorly tried to argue against. Well done. You guys smell that? Yep... that smell is HYPOCRITE!

Ah, so what you mean is, you weren't really "making an inquiry" to legitimately get an answer, at least not any answer there was a chance you'd accept. You came under a preconceived notion and tried (very badly) via passive aggressive means to prove it because you didn't have the courage to flatout say it. Yep. Epic troll here.
