Excellent Point... I think this also goes along with the rampant complaints about the price hike in the msrp for most of the next gen games from 50-60 bucks. Which is such a ridiculous complaint for a million reasons that I won't get into - but it's pretty much the same thing... especially in an entertainment industry. If you don't want/like the product don't get it... but if you want it, don't ***** about those prices.
STOP IT. THIS IS YOUR PAIN. THIS IS YOUR BURNING HAND. IT'S RIGHT HERE. |

that's a really good point. seriously, people really forget how much work actually goes into a game sometimes. we're spoiled.
look at rock band. yes, it's an expensive game, but think about the life of the game. you can download newly released songs practically EVERY WEEK! that to me is awesome b/c you only have to pay a few bucks to keep the game novel. for the most part, we play games for maybe like 1 month. then there are games like halo or rock band that enable us keep playing it for yrs and not get tired of it. and what did that cost you? like $10! better than buying a new game for $60 every few weeks imo. |

With all the next-gen games, I don't see why people are surprised they cost $60. I'd be willing to pay $70 for a great game, especially if it's Ubi-made.

Get your head out of Ubi's rectum bud.
While Ubi publishes some great games they also make a lot of pewp. As much as I love Rainbow series they didnt do much to RSV2. Especially not to justify a 60 dollar price. I love the changes they made. Tighter controls, ability to invite friends in ranked matches, and with full teams no one has to leave to switch sides. That does not make up for no matchmaking, same maps, weapons, and host having a crazy advantage. Notice I didnt mention graphics, because for me that doesnt matter. The game looks fine and for me it comes down to mechanics and maps. I can understand them tweaking maps and what not because a great map can be played for a long time but how about something new and innovative. I really have to sign in with my ubi account to get Streets. I MEAN COME ON, REALLY?! |

There's Brofase using that word "pro" again... Professional what, exactly? What have I been listening to recently? "I have a competition in me." "The world doesn't just disappear when you close your eyes..." |

The atitude I've always had to DLC is if it's good content and it took effort to create, basicaly it adds to the game, like say map packs for Halo/Rainbow/Gears and you enjoy the stand alone game, then it's only fair that the developer gets payment for it (after all 3-5 people work 4-6 months per map is going to cost money).
Like you Alex I didn't reackon much on the first map pack for H3, to be honest with hindsight I'd probably have left it till it was free, but the new pack looks like all the maps in it will be really good, though for me personaly Blackout would be worth price on it's own. I think another issue with DLC more so for multiplayer games is the problem of them dividing/segmenting a games online community. I think Bungie have struck a better balance with Halo 3. But I remember when the last map pack came out for Halo 2... if you didn't own the new maps there were many play list you couldn't enter, which I felt was wrong. Considering people had already pay for an XBox, internet high speed internet accsess, the game and XBox Live. I also hated with Gears getting auto booted by the game when playing private matchess with friends because I didn't want to go out and buy the map packs. |

Nah they mostly make some great titles, but when they make excellent games as beyond good and evil, no one buys them. The devs are just giving what the general audience wants and the general game population goes out and buys 50 cent bulletproof :/ This message has been edited. Last edited by: slickrick2345, |

Psi Ops was a Midway game, not a Ubi game. |

When was the last time Ubi made a game like BG&E? Nowadayas it's all tactical shooters and yearly sequels. Even Assassin's Creed was messed up because it had be out for the holidays. Maybe we'll get Tom Clancy's Beyond Good sometime. The Evil add-on pack will be available later on Xbox Live for 1200 points. --------------------------------------- PSN: Ninja_Kn1ght // Xbox Live: Ninja Kn1ght // Twitter.com/Adam3001 |

yep, even psyconauts did horrendous in sales til it started picking up steam and people finally got it through there thick skulls that "hey this is a great, well done game thats extremly fun" |

You gotta admit. That is kinda funny. I finally watched the bonus disc from RSV2. The dolls were great. But the pro tip segment. Paleeeze. It was hard to listen to and watch. Borderline pathetic. I got tips. Don't stand out in the open, aim accurately, shoot quickly, and make sure you have a superior internet or lan connection. If you can't do/have these. Your screwed. |

Great blog! I definitely agree that there's a fine line. Inevitably, there will be developers who try to eek money out of people. (Especially by selling items that will give some players an unfair advantage. Who wants to see gaming become a place where the rich kids always win?) And there's the worry that we'll start seeing incomplete games... I definitely don't want to have to buy the end of a story!
But there is a lot of great uses of the DLC system. New quests, multiplayer maps, and fun goodies. Themes, gamerpics... I love what's being done for the most part and I think that developers deserve their hard-earned money for quality content. |

eke
Beautiful Katamari has locked levels you can only access by purchasing some DLC... I like games that I can revisit because of new missions/quests/maps. As for themes and gamerpics, I feel that those could be a reward given after certain achievements. I'm pretty sure some games have done that - it gives an added dimension to playing a game and some point to achievements beyond a number. |

Now that someone mentions gamer pics I have to say I've always felt they were way, way over priced for what they are, basicaly very small pics... not shure if they are JPEGs or what file type but the cost of making them must be extreamly small compared to what they charge for them.
