Take-Two Interactive Announces Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto IV Breaks Entertainment Launch Records
Retail Sales of Grand Theft Auto IV Top $500 Million in First Week

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), said today that Grand Theft Auto IV has surpassed all-time entertainment records for day one and week one sales by dollar value. Released on Tuesday, April 29th, Grand Theft Auto IV, the critically acclaimed video game, has sold through to consumers approximately 6 million units globally with an estimated retail value of more than $500 million in the first week. Grand Theft Auto IV sold approximately 3.6 million units on its opening day with a retail value of approximately $310 million globally.

"We knew Grand Theft Auto IV would break new ground in terms of the player's experience, with its compelling story line, extraordinary gameplay and action that ranges over a broad urban canvas. Now, it has broken sales and rating records as well. Grand Theft Auto IV's first week performance represents the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment, and we believe these retail sales levels surpass any movie or music launch to date. We congratulate the entire Rockstar team on creating a must-have experience that takes the legendary Grand Theft Auto franchise to a new level," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two.

"Rockstar's goal is to make each new title in the Grand Theft Auto franchise even better than those that preceded it, and Grand Theft Auto IV is a smashing success on that score. Grand Theft Auto IV makes full use of the power of next generation technology, and offers players an experience unique in the interactive entertainment medium. This game sets a new standard in the industry, with critics hailing it as both an artistic and technological masterpiece," said Ben Feder, Take-Two's Chief Executive Officer.

Pretty impressive indeed. Just wish I had a 360 to play it on, hopefully I'll be able to get a new one within a month or so.

But please, Doc, don't make the assumption that, just because something sells a bazillion copies and sets all sorts of records, that it means that it's a quality product. I give you the Backstreet Boys as exhibit A.

In this case, however, it seems well earned.

Doc,

I don't know what's gotten into you, but please consider this a polite warning to take it down a notch. You've been making some pretty belligerent comments lately, and there is no reason Brim's comment deserved that kind of response, especially since he said that the performance of this title appeared to be well justified.

I love the GTA games but I think this one was bad. Just because the sales are up doesn't mean it is good. For example I bought it and hated it, if I knew what I was buying before hand I would have saved some money. Look at Halo 3 for a similar comparison. Sales don't mean as much as one thinks.

All I have to say is wow.

I'm not trying to start an argument, I was just pointing out that massive sales doesn't automatically mean that something is good, and I used the Backstreet Boys as an example of that.

In this case, GTA4 is one of those cases where something sells a bazillion copies and is good - at least from all accounts I've seen, as I haven't had a chance to play it yet. Make no mistake, once I get my 360 back, this is the first game I'm getting.

I suggest Doc be given a timeout He'd probably wouldn't mind since he's too busy making homemade sex videos.

That would be a Impressive thing if he listened jinx.but there are people like him and Y_Helo_BEAR are in every room, clan forum, chat room ect ect.
people who live such boring pointless lives that they need to anger some random person they never even met just to get a few jollys.
always safe in the single minded fact of "they can't find me,what do i care?"
(more or less) let him keep doing it i say. it's probably the only time in his pathetic life he can feel important or get a cheap thrill acting like a childish bully.
in the long run he's just going to shoot himself in the foot when he says something even more stupid then normal.and i would love to see what kind of thing that would be.
