Jin because I'm loving his freeze attacks (allows me to do extended attack sequences). Ragna because he has decent range with his sword and he's pretty mobile AND he has an uppercut! And Bang because... he's so f*cking hilarious. He has a super that lets him go into Super-Saiyan mode, for crying out loud!

I'm still trying to figure out how to get 100% in a lot of the characters' story modes. It appears that in addition to picking certain branches in the stories, you also have to LOSE on purpose in some of the encounters. A LOT of backtracking involved, but some of the gallery stuff that you unlock along the way is pretty neat.

I'll be the Bill to your Beatrix, kiddo. Much to learn, you have, grasshopper...

I've been strictly using Ragna while I learn the game. He's beastly at first, but his mix up shenanigans don't seem like they'll hold up in high level play IMO.

I officially love this game and love using Noel so far. Just sayin.

P.S. Anyone feel an undertone of Evangelion-likeness in the storyline scenes?

Jab like crazy with Noel. It gives +3 on block which is pretty retarded.

Manny owns me hard, in BlazBlue. 13-3 is downright embarassing, against scrubby Ragna, no doubt!

Doesn't help that Jin's ground/air pokes suck balls... nor do I fully understand Jin's normal properties/priorities/ranges. I think I'm starting to get a better idea now, though!

Now I REALLY gotta learn how to play this game right. Wink2

I have no idea what Evangelion is like. I still haven't even started Slayers, or Ghost in the Shell. Razz

You should be thankful. Evangelion is one of the most overrated anime ever. [/downer]

Ukyo- I wonder if I could beat you!! Twisted You're in trouble if you don't get to watching these classy series, mister.

Manny- I like them both! Rare to find another Slayers fan, though- so high five.

Ahhh cowboy bebeop. That brings back fond memories. It was almost ten years ago when I first saw and fell in love with that show, and it still feels like yesterday.

So pino, how do you feel about Keanu as Spike?

You most certainly could beat me, at this rate! It's like I've lost my fire... my will to fight!

But there's only so much losing that I can take until the sleeping giant awakens. :P

I've actually watched Cowboy Bebop. It's such a complete masterpiece. Every single element in that anime combines into a superb whole. I LOVE the jazz music, the gritty art-style, and the fact that it's an anime with a WESTERN feel to it. It's a unique anime in which the animation itself emulates a western style... nothing quite like it.

I also loved the fact that I could jump in at any episode and STILL enjoy the anime, without knowing any back story. It's a perfect anime for me.

I've watched a lot of mainstream animes too (Tenchi Muyo, Trigun, Death Note, etc.). The problem with me is, I'm a casual anime watcher. I need someone to make me suggestions every once in a while. That's why I have Sarah make a few suggestions (like Slayers). It's quite ironic, really, I go to an anime con each year, so I SHOULD know what to watch, right? Go figure!

P.S. Keanu as Spike COULD work. It's not like Spike is very lively, anyway. :P Keanu can play passive, monotone characters quite well, so it remains to be seen.

BANG.

Watch Samurai Champloo. Made by the same dude that made Cowboy Bebop. Has an amazing soundtrack also.

My xbox just got here. Been playing with my brother for about five hours. Digging all the characters but two things sort of worry me. That the success of this game might hurt kof XII at the end of the month and that I might never see another guilty gear materialize.

As for my thoughts on gameplay: It's fun and actually quite simple. I'm shocked at how well the "do something cool" button works out. I had some disdain for the idea but there are specials off that button. Any noobie should be able to dive right in (against people of a similar skill level at least). The similarity to guilty gear is welcome but comes with some annoyances. I keep pressing "heavy slash" instead of drive to do my supers and I keep pressing drive thinking it'll give me a fast kick. But that's my problem. I'd have to recommend anyone give the game a rental with some friends over. Then you're probably going to want to buy it.

Balance is kindof meh. Some characters are just way too good, mainly because those characters can fill the screen with crap and keep you away or locked down permanantly. That's kinda busted. But it never gets Ivan Ooze bad and with three exceptions the cast is pretty balanced. I'd love to see another tier of fighters added. I predict the butler will make an appearance as a fighter in the next installment. As for the current fighters, Bang probably takes the cake for me, but the cast has personality to spare.

As for animes I recommend Black Lagoon. It's not a smart show, but it's fun.

But you see, Evangelion is that special kind of overrated that makes it suck more than it already does! /downer

On a serious note, I did like it until the last quarter stretch. After that point it just totally lost all direction and started jumping around with this horribly convoluted plot that amounted to poop in the end. The creator was on anti depressants when he made it. I think that speaks for itself.

So I played online with my buddies kowtowrobinson and chuck the landslide. The game handles surprigingly well online. But Kowtow was a merciless monster who devoured me alive and laughed as he did so. I have much to learn.

He could just know it from the match vids on the special features disks. Or from youtube vids.
