Great blog, and it's about time the PS3 controller was fixed! Though I still don't find this new one perfect, but almost.

The best part for me is the analog stick placement. Having them side by side has always felt awkward, but having one higher and the other lower is perfect! Much better control, and every bit counts when you're playing competitively.

The con is definitely the dpad. One of the PS3 controller's strongpoints was having the dpad buttons separate, which is perfect for fighting games. You can't get the same precision when they're all together like that.

All in all, I think it's great, but I definitely will stick with my dual shock controller for fighting games.

I love my PS3, though. And while the analog sticks being side by side were a bit of a pain, it never prevented me from playing or only using it as a blu ray player. The PS3 has a lot of fantastic games, and I've spent countless hours playing it, and still do. I like the Xbox 360 better, but I'm still an avid PS3 gamer as well. I use the Blu Ray on it, but not half as much as I game with it. Razz

Nice blog Phoenix. I would love to test one of those out. I have been looking into getting the XCM Cross Battle Adapter.

Controller design isn't my biggest concern, (I don't own a modded southpaw PS3 controller) so, being able to play PS3 games that don't offer SouthPaw is my goal.

With the adapter I may be able to use my modded lefty 360 controller with my PS3.

Phoenix bring you new controller to LA in Nov. I want to try it. Wink

ps I am Loving Uncharted 2 y'all. This game is awesome!!!

I'm thinkin bout pickin this up for sure, i can't stand the PS3 controller it feels so flimsy and cheap, not to mention the actual grip of the analog stick suck. the positioning of the analog stick never really bothered me, but the fact that the analogs are more like the 360 makes me happy.

If I had a PS3 i might've invested in this. its time for different consoles to start changing up the design to accommodate the consumer... Or to just give us some other options. Its definitely coming around considering they are doing with different colors and themes for 360, for example.

I'm definitely going to have to pick this up. Mostly because of the fact that I suck at Uncharted 2' multiplayer Frown .

@ Spectra. What's your PSN ID? I see Jumpman's there and I got JJRage's outta the Uncharted 2 thread. I'm guessing yours is similar to your gamertag.

The controller really works great. I would recommend you do if you prefer your 360 thumbsticks over your PS3 ones.

Any old USB headset will do except for the 360 proprietary ones. The LIVE Vision camera works though. My cellphone came with a bluetooth headset that I used for a while. If you've got one of those lying around sync it with your PS3.

I almost bought the Turtle Beach Ear Force P21 from Newegg when they were offering free shipping on it, but $80 seemed like too much for only Stereo. It's basically the equivalent of the Ear Force X1 for the 360 which is only $60.

I am currently using this piece of junk, leftover from the days of my PS2, until my new headset arrives.

I ordered a Logitech Clearchat Pro which, at $40, is a much better price for a stereo usb headset. It's not high-end gaming stuff and contrary to my earlier post it's not 5.1, but it's a helluvalot better than what I'm currently using.

Not sure if you're after a headset that covers both ears, or something like the 360 one and just clovers one. I use a Plantronics one that has dual pairing (that way I don't have to keep re-pairing it with my cell phone or PS3). The PS3 one is pretty cheap, but I'm not sure how well it works. On the plus side, you don't need to pair that one, it just works with the PS3 out of the package.

further proof of 360's awesomness

I also recommend getting these. I ordered the FPS Freeks for my controller and LOVE them. They really add to the level of control. I have seen my kill count go up dramatically.

I have the Kontrol Freeks for racers. I didn't see much of a difference, then again, I suck *** in racers to begin with

Thanks for the headset info guys. Glomp I think I might try using the head set that came with my old phone. I think that's a great place to start.

The ****ty ps3 control is the reason that I only use the ps3 for blu-ray. If this thing is any good maybe I could actually play some games on that bitch.

The DS3 is as good as the 360 pad in my opinion.. I don't like the triggers so much, but the D-pad is far better than what is offered on the Xbox controller and 3rd-party pads are invariably awful.

I use the official ps3 headset and the MGS4 headset and they both work well. I prefer the official one though, it looks quite sleek.

Yes, the D-Pad on the PS3 controller is far superior. Nobody in their right mind is going to argue that.

But the biggest issue most of us (myself included) have with the PS3 Controller is the joystick placement. Having the left stick up, level with the face buttons is MUCH nicer then having it down beside the right stick.
