Just downloaded! I'm a bit happy, runs alot smoother, has a cleaner feel, and its tasty and healthy
i like it a ton better than vista already. So, question: does anyone else have it? if so opinions? If you don't have it, do you plan on upgrading? |

All I know is the little Asian girl on the Window 7 commerical is freakin ADORABLE! I love her! Now where can I adopt her?
I never liked Vista, but that is probably because I don't like change in general. |

Fullsail? But, at any rate, SP1 really fixed a lot of the issues Vista had. However, that still wasn't a good reason to upgrade from XP. Heck, the main reason I'll be upgrading to Windows 7 on my other computer is so I can send jobs to my brother's render farm and to increase compatibility (currently using XP-64 on that machine.) Otherwise, I'm still perfectly happy with XP. |

I'll be upgrading my machines to it over time (which are both on Vista). My new upcoming system will be getting it right away (Thanks to my Tech.Net).
I played around with Windows 7 months ago and I must say it runs a heck of a lot better than Vista speed wise. Even startup/shutdown was pretty close to XP. For me it's a must. I love change and it's looking pretty good so far. Vista was bumping in the start, but SP2 has made it pretty decent. Still not as nice as 7, but good. I still remember the big security hole that was XP prior to SP2 and SP1. Not many people jumped onto it right away either. I'm sure Microsoft won't be supporting it much longer (if they even are anymore), it's been one of their longer supported OS's (Next to Windows NT). |

I enjoy using XP a lot. I grew up using mostly Microsoft Windows OS with the exception of the iMac back in Elem School. I've had many chances to use Vista however I didn't think the time was right to pick that OS up. When I heard about 7, I started feeling a bit different to a newer OS, so I looked into it & read Engadget day-in day-out to keep up to date. I have W7 on VPC & have loved ever since, so I do plan on picking it up. IDK when that will be though. Maybe November.

Vista gets a bad rap. In the 64bit environment it works very well. It is actually quiet stable. That being said, I have been fooling with Win7 for several months now and I like it very much. I only wish they had implemented the long awaited new file system. Don't get me wrong, I like NTFS but really it has not changed very much since NT4.

I'm just gonna do it. XP is on it's way out as much as I love it. I use it in win97 mode anyway.

Affirmative sir! XP is almost a 10 yr old OS, it will be nice for a change. Plus, I can look to 7 for more support in terms of Windows. |

I have windows 7. It's pretty cool although I spend 99% of my time in OS X still.

I've put up with vista for quite some time on my home computer, windows 7 is a great change of pace works alot better with my laptop and comp. Still thinking about downloading linux just to see the difference. |

I've had it for several months now. I needed a 64 bit OS for the extra RAM I put in the machine so a friend installed the 7 beta. I'm not tickled with it, but at least it's not Vista.

Exactly. The 64-bit version works perfectly fine, especially if you have enough RAM. However, because I am a member of the CS Department, I get a free copy of 7, so I will most likely make the change this winter (I'm still not sure if I'm going to partition my harddrive or simply switch over 100% to 7). Isn't she, though? If I ever decide I want kids, I'd definitely adopt a little Asian girl. Something I've thought about since I was a kid. As far as the topic goes, my best friend bought W7 for me and is going to install it later this month when he visits. Hopefully it has better program compatibility than my Vista 64 bit. O.o |

As far as I saw, compatibility was primarily a problem with the software/hardware manufacturers not wanting to fully commit to Vista, and not Vista itself. Given that Windows 7 is more of an incremental upgrade, I imagine it'll suffer the same problem if the manufacturers still do not want to fully commit to it.
Which I doubt. Microsoft has too much at stake, I don't think it'd be beyond them to pay a few companies to make some stuff specifically for W7 to ensure the launch goes smooth (well, from a software standpoint, since I doubt most people will be picking up new hardware with their disks.) |
