Don't ever shop at brookstone.....ever
I got a gift for my birthday from there. It was the "Magic Message Clock". I thought, "Cool! This is something I can use. So I go to plug it in and it doesn't work. I bring it back the day after I got it and they give me another one after grilling me about why it isn't working. I get THAT one home and guess what..... THAT one doesn't work! Sooooo I bring it back yet AGAIN and now this lady is as over me as I am her. She finally gives me another one and I get it home. Plug it in and it worked. Great! I set the time, I set the date and set weather or not I want messages to scroll across. Looks great! Then night time falls and I notice the clock looking a lot brighter than it did during the day. Well, once the sun goes down, my whole apartment ended up looking like a freakin night club. Those LED lights were SOOOO bright! It was insane! I had to unplug it! So I unplug and wait till morning. I go to plug it in the next day and what happens? I have to set the date.... the time... weather or not I want a message to appear, all over again. So I decide, this is not the item for me. I take it back to Brookstone to exchange and pick out a few things to exchange it for. The stuff I picked out actually came out to $30 MORE than the clock was worth and I was so willing to pay for it. I get to the counter and they say "It's past the 30 day mark. You can't return it". What??? I can't return it? It's past the 30 day mark after I received the FIRST broken one! I still have 3 days past the time when I got one that actually works! So I call up the regional manager and she tells me the same BS! So I call customer service and it's all the same! You know, I've done my share of retail and never in a million years heard of something not being able to be returned! ...so don't shop at brookstone you aren't famous till they put your head on a Pez dispenser.... |

The Same thing happened to my friend with Gamestop. He kept getting funky copies of GTA 4 and he went to go return it for the third time and they told him his 14 days had passed. He doesn't go to that particular gamestop anymore.

Well that sucks.
But i have to tell you man, i know of hundreds of different retail Items that cannot be returned once purchased. Software Undergarments Bikini's Just to name a few. Brookstone should have issued you an exchange receipt with the third unit. It should have outlined their return policy on it as most retail chains do. That alone should have gotten you the exchange if you were still within the return time limit dated upon receipt of the third clock. As for that whole Customer is always right BS. Well that is business speak in LARGE retail chains as the "Shut 'em up and get 'em out" rule. It is not a business rule or law. It really depends on the store you go to. My business for example does not take returns or make refunds.(My product is made to order)If i make the mistake when creating your product, then i replace it for free. However, if i make what you request and you realize upon getting it that you still don't like it (even though your request was followed to the letter) well you still own it and if you want me to remake it i will be glad to as soon as you pay me in full to make a new item. The Customer is not always right. Hell they are not correct more than half of the time. |

The reason they wouldn't take it back is because normally no one ever buys anything from Brookstone. If you did one sale a year would you give a refund? |

Well it's sitting right next to my desk, in the box, in the bag, with the receipt still in the bag so every time I look at it, I get fired up. Better than coffee I tell ya

That's true. When I sold product a customer would special order something and once they did that they were stuck with it. That's why as a salesman if you know it wasn't good fit you had to try to give them options. Some people didn't listen but if you do your job as a salesman you won't have that problem. Ever hear of qualifying the customer? I don't mean by market research or anything. Thers is an art to sales. |

This is my business. Brookstone is fun to go into and look at all of the stuff, but there is very little there that people will really buy that they cannot get cheaper somewhere else. As told to me by someone that used to work there. |
