I’m writing this because I am just amazed at what a friend just told me. He has been obsessed with COD4 online lately- and he’s trying to get me into the whole online scene. Well I asked how he got so good online so fast, meaning how did he go up in rank so quickly. And He said his friend played for him and his friend’s one of the best COD4 players he knows. (I’m sure he’s never met anyone from this forum.) But he also told me that he had his friend play the game all the way through on his gamertag- so he can get all the achievements. Now, what is the point of that? It’s not really your gamer score now is it? I was just so surprised. And I told him how wrong he was- that he should be playing the games on his own or not play at all. It’s about playing the game- not how high you can get your gamer score. At least that’s my philosophy. I’ve got 270 I think right now- and that’s only because COD4 gives out 20g on most of the small achievements. But I have fun playing the game- that’s all I care about. So all I can do right now is wonder what the Xbox scene is becoming if this is a common occurrence.

I can proudly say that everyone of my points was earned honestly.
Only losers farm out their GT for achievements and points. |

I've got one or two small achievements that someone else got for me but that was just them playing the game on my system, not me trying to get them to get achievements for me.

I think the cheapest, most dishonorable thing I've done was to take advantage of Madden '06 for the easy acheivements.

Yea I can understand getting help when you get stuck- but not completing a whole game for you. I got kinda mad (playfully mad) at a friend when we were playing Rainbow Six Vegas. He had to play on my husbands account cause he didn't feel like recovering his own and he got Pistoleer and Executioner pretty quickly. So I said "next time you're playing on my gamertag." But I said it jockingly. I had the hardest time trying to survive the dog attack in COD4 but I stuck with it and eventually got it. Last night... lol. Go me! As far as GTAIV- I'm still very much in the beginning- but my husband got mad when I got invited up by michelle on my first try. He was only invited up after the 4th date.

I think there was an article about the easiest way to get points- and most of the games were all sports related. Especially NBA Hoops. I'm pretty amazed at how easily COD4 gives out the points. |

Yeah, the early sports games gave away achievements like they were candy. Some of those games only had a handful of achievements worth over a hundred points each.

I like the idea of achievements. Well designed achievements can encourage you to play in different ways and try things you otherwise might not have done but I hate the cumulative gamerscore. It's really meaningless. I wonder how this will be handled on ps3 when it's trophy system is launched very soon.

Same here for the most part. In some cases, I will go out of my way to get an achievement just because it's something I want to be able to say I've done (the 100% on a song on expert vocals achievement for one) or I'll put the time into getting 1000 Gamerscore into a game I really like just because I really like the game (Burnout: Paradise) but I don't put too much effort into increasing my Gamerscore. |

The only cheating I care about is people cheating against other players in online play.
I could really care less who mods, manipulates their gamerscore, looks up a solution online, uses strategy guides (I actually do this one), or whatever other million things people do in their with their gaming time to beat or explore a game. It's their game and their time after all and they aren't hurting anyone except maybe themselves when they don't get that feeling of accomplishment. But once you get online playing against other PEOPLE, I am a purist when it comes to any kind of cheating. |

One situation where I would say cheating has yanked my chain was in COD4.
My best time in the FNG mock-up run is 15.25 secs. To get that time, you have to basically, be perfect and utilize your very previous training you received before hand. As well as look for ways to cut time. Shooting accurately gives you a max 3 second bonus off your time at the end. Using the sprint/run is key to getting any good time in this as well. Being smart with your flashbangs(there 2 areas you have throw a flash through a door into room) is paramount to success. What gets me is that. Most everyone(maybe90%) on the leaderboard ahead of my time used some time-clock stop glitch to achieve times near 11 and 10 secs. Which is a joke. From what I understand, IW has taken care of it by negating bonus points when this glitch is activated. But they wouldn't reset the leaderboard. Which is gaaaarrbage. Instead of being in the top 13,000 overall. I could be in the top 1,000, or even higher. There's only one person on my friends list close to my score. I only beat him by .04 secs. Anyway, that would be a situation that I actually care about people modding or glitching to achieve rank. Very much related to gamerscore boosting for rank. There's just no excuse for cheating to achieve anything. |

![]() The actual "gamerscore" is silly, but the achievements themselves are brilliant. I loved the "Zombie Chopper" achievement in HL2. I think we used the same saw blade for half of Ravenholm and it was such a blast! And the "Immortal" achievement in the Penny Arcade game made combat a lot more fun for me. And Moonstruck, don't forget... cheaters never win. If that person has other people play games for him, he won't get to be a great gamer. |

The only achievement of mine that I haven't got by myself was the CoD4 attack dog one...
Like Lirael, I thought the Zombie Chopper achievement was brilliant. So were a few others in Half Life 2 - The One Free Bullet? Because they challenged me to play outside how I normally would, by restricting what I could do. This was surprisingly fun |

Yea the "Down boy Down" achievement was pretty tricky- took me two days to finally get it. The trick is to just hit the right stick down once when it comes up on the screen- when the dog goes to bite you. My problem was I kept hitting it. Anyways- my next two goals are geared towards Rainbow Six- I want Pistoleer and Executioner. |

The only way I ever see myself getting all the achievements for a game is if I am rewarded for my efforts with something other than ridiculously meaningless points.
