There rarely are such things as cheap wins. Sometimes a character so badly shuts down another or has so many advantages that it's fair to say he's cheap. But your husband probably has more practice with street fighter iv than you and thought he was better than he was. If you were able to take him out with simple tactics that was really his bad. I don't think you should sell yourself short by calling your win cheap. You kept trying, sought out advice and improved, it sounds like it was earned.
I would caution you in one thing however, in case you play in the future. The reason he was able to punish everything you do, and the reason you won when you started punishing him, is because that game is a turtle fest. There are some fine games out there that reward you for attacking a defending foe. Soul Calibur IV does this with armor breaks and critical finishes. Blazblue punishes you if you defend too much by making you unable to block and making you take double damage. Kof XII, just makes it impossible to play turtle style, the characters jump so fast and evasive rolls are standard and make trying to turtle a bad idea. If you're going to play street fighter iv my advice would be sit back and punish. Maybe throw some fireballs if you've got the range. It isn't a game where agression pays. "I often quote myself. It adds spice to my conversation." --George Bernard Shaw |

Negative says the Zangief, Rufus, Boxer, Fei Long, Cammy, Ken, Bison, and Seth players. Those characters have to work their way towards you to get their damage. The problem with the game is that the reward for turtle characters far outweighs the reward for aggressive characters. The only characters who don't follow this rule are Zangief, Rufus, and in a lot of cases, Sagat. |

The problem wasn't that he played a more defense oriented match but the opposite. He was all offensive. Except for blocking a few special attacks he out did me move on move. With Ryu he wouldn't stop shooting Hurricane Kicks followed by Haduken combos and the special Haduken. With Ken he wouldn't stop with Shoruken and charged up Shoruken attacks. I had no time to react! With Sagat his offensive strategy was put on hold but he still nearly beat me. I called it a cheap win because the game was a match on match tie and I barely won the last round haha! But a win is still a win I guess he knows more moves since he has had more experience with the other Street Fighter games. I also have a hunch that he was hoping that I would get help to beat him haha! Mannyger: I agree on Ken Cammi and Fei long being good offensive characters. Ken is painfully obvious haha! |

I would ask Manny for advice, Loversheart. He's pretty good at fighting games.

You're welcome and yeah Guile is a lil hard to use but once you're good with him, oh man the hurt that you can bring... |

Guile is so useless. He is the same like in every Street Fighter game. Makes it easy for any good player to beat.

Guile hits hard. He is good character to use for those who like to use the turtle strategy.
