There probably aren't many tennis fans in these parts. I do like watching grandslam events. They can bring some incredible moments from time to time.

Today was no exception. Records in the balance for probably one of the greatest players ever. Roger Federer. Going for 6 straight Wimbledon titles! He also was looking to tie Bjorn Borg with a French/Wimb double.

So then here comes Rafael Nadal. A guy whom had faced R-Fed the last three years in the championship match on the grass. Losing last year in a 5 set thriller. I thought that was one of the best matches in years.

Until today. What I witnessed today was flawless tennis. Couldn't believe what I was seeing. The longest match in London ever. Easily the best match of all time. Wow.

I LOVE tennis! I woke up early this morning to watch this match. I was out of town visiting my family in Pensacola, so I had to get on the road after the third set (damned rain delay!!). I kept up with it on my phone as I was driving, which is not nearly as exciting as it sounds Shady.

I agree, Doc. Most epic match ever! I'm hoping ESPN will show it as an instant classic or the Tennis channel will show it again, so I can see the last two sets. I can't believe I missed them. Grrr. Here's hoping for Round Three in the US Open final in September. Definitely the best rivalry since Sampras/Agassi...and one of the best ever (even though Nadal has OWNED Federer lately). I was really hoping Roddick would step up and challenge Federer, but no American(sad to say) is in the same league as these two guys. What a great ending to the most heralded and prestigious tennis event in the world!

Wimbledon is for uppity folks who like paying stupid prices for two things, strawberries and cream that they could get in the local supermarket and the chance to watch people grunting while hitting a ball back and forth.

ummmmmm isn't baseball
Exactly the same hitting a ball back and throwing it forth.
grunting,ball grabbing....Hello McFly
Tennis is 1 on 1 running and hitting for however long it takes you to defeat your opponent.
It's 10X faster!
Steroids are useless.
It's not fixed attack and defence - like Hockey like soccer
which is the real sport again?
Don't trip running to that base now.

Um you don't hit the ball back and forth in baseball. Last time I checked the players on the base don't hit the ball back to the catcher at all .

One on one is perspective. After all shouldn't a good team perform together as one well oiled machine?

How is it not fixed defense? You stand on your base and try to stop the other team from getting to your base successfully? You don't run around in circles and standing anywhere you want on baseball.

Yeah, Viper, if you say so...

Doesn't baseball have, y'know, pitchers and catchers and batters and stuff? I don't know much about the game. As far as I know, it's far more varied than tennis though.

Besides, our national tennis hero has never won through to a Grand Slam final. Ever. So he finally gave up and commentates. Inspiring!

You have a baseball Hall of Fame full of players.

Doc, that was, without a doubt, the most stunning tennis match I've ever seen.

I grew up loving baseball and football. Then came to basketball. Then soccer and hockey. I love sports and I've seen some amazing games. That Federer-Nadal matchup easily ranks as one of the greatest athletic contests in the history of sports.

I argue with my friends a lot about what makes for the best athlete. I end up on the side of soccer and football a lot of the time. But today I'm eating my words and admitting I've been wrong all these years.

There are no more complete athletes than the two men who walked off that court last night. I am just stunned.

Ok Ok ...figured that'll tick a couple of ya off.
I love sports ...fairly active individual here.
Seductive Pancakes - I didn't say hitting the ball back and forth
I said Hitting and THROWING it forth (towards homebase eg.)
I know it's hard to see through Red (eyes - Anger)
Fixed attack fixed defence - The defending team or catch/throw team can never score.
unlike Hockey - Where a goaltender can make a save and pass it to a foward the forward can score or the shorthanded goal for example.
what does that have to do with tennis
Both players are attacking and defending all match ...
being it's 1 on 1 makes harder then baseball and hockey combined
hence it's usually mental fortitude that determines the winner.
Smile
I did like the well oiled machine statement true the team that plays as one ROCKS ! !!
