Sure when you're horde. You don't even have to leave friendly territory until you hit level 50. Alliance get thrown into the thresher at lvl 16. That leaves a lot more room for bad experiences. Between "Redridge" and the "Scarlet Monastery" I have to think the developers had a running in-joke going on. But you know you're right, you deal with it. And it's kind of a mark of pride if you've got your character a decent level on a PVP server as opposed to another. It's a lot more stressful though and the people on PVE servers are a lot friendlier and more laid back so I wouldn't fault anybody.

That said I played wow for maybe 2-3 years but my guild started going nuts and started treating the game like a job so I took a step back and eventually stopped playing. I've been on the wagon for about 3 months now.

Was that before or after ashenvale, 1k needles, Stonetalon mtns, hillsbrad, arathi highlands, badlands, dustwallow marsh, and tanaris? These are all pre 50 for both hode and alliance and you CANT avoid them on either side.

Actually, I think that was before you neglected instances. CAN'T be avoided?

RFC (13-16)
WC (17-23)
SFK (18-24)
RFK (24-29)
SM (30-40)
RFD (35-42)

I'll fess up to something though. I thought the swamp of sorrows was horde territory and I was wrong. My previous statement should have been: "You don't even have to leave friendly territory until you hit level 42." If you're dead set on questing solo then of course you're going to have to go through the decathlon you just described. But as horde you don't have to. Especially seeing as there's quests out there that require a group. If you're getting one together why not just go to an instance? Btw, after you've run through this list your next task is the gauntlet leading to ZF: 42-46 which is like a 30 second run. You could also stretch this out a bit if you don't mind swatting greens but you know, why bother?

Yea you could grind instances (most of which you need to do some previous quests to get the quest for them) if you want to level up in a few years. Doing quests, even with ganking, is faster than grinding instances.

I guess being on a PvP server is not that much worse than what you deal with on PvE servers. You'll run into the morons everywhere I suppose. I've been in pugs with ninjas numerous times. I ran UBRS for I don't know how many times trying to get my shadowcraft chest (this was long before TBC was out) and it dropped... ninja'd... Man was I ****ed. I'll never forget when I was doing an escort quest in winterspring and some Tauren warrior kept killing the NPC I was escorting... Or pugging instances and one of your group members gets what they need from a boss and they leave. Situations like that is why I'm trying to find a good guild, I don't like pugging. Yeah, stuff happens, it comes with the territory when you play multiplayer games. People are nuts, there's just something in the water.

Blizzard is now allowing full time character transfers for characters from pve servers to pvp

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/index.xml

"Providing a smooth and enjoyable experience for all players is always a priority for us, and we are continually re-evaluating our policies and programs to do so. As the state of the game has matured substantially since the inception of Paid Character Transfers, we will now be allowing PvE-to-PvP transfers on a full-time basis to provide players with more mobility and freedom to easily play with their friends.

Keep in mind that all of the other standard cooldowns and restrictions will continue to apply; we're just opening the option to transfer characters on Normal realms to Player-vs.-Player realms. Please review the Paid Character Transfer FAQ if you have any questions on how this service works.

You can use this service at any time by visiting your Account Management page and selecting the "Paid Character Transfer" button".

On the one hand it kind of sucks that that 70 that knocks on your noggin might not have come up the hard way. On the other hand, sweet.

I will deeply consider playing on Dunemaul. Or Deathwing... there are a lot of little ****ers I would like to murder from the allaince on Deathwing. Either way it will be horde side since nobody plays alliance anymore.
