$900 for 10 people isn't terrible. That's only $90 a piece, and if it's a nice restaurant I could easily rack up $90 on a salad, meal, drink with dinner, and after-dinner drink (if you've never ended a meal with brandy, I highly suggest you give it a try sometime.)

Okay, in all fairness, I guess if you're JUST talking about getting entrees and a drink like pop, or a single glass of wine, then yeah, $90 does seem high.

Personally, I'm all for paying the extra money for the atmosphere. There's a certain price point where it stops being about the food and starts being about "the experience," and I'm okay with that.

I just can't afford to do it more than about once or twice a year. Big Grin

The most expensive meal Pancakes ever had was a Happy Meal with an extra slice of bacon

That restaurant sounds pretty sweet Moonsong.

Oh gee this coming from someone who cries about the price of a video game that isn't too bad when compared to the meal moonsong just paid for and will eventually end up in the sewers the next day.

Oh, and actually the most expensive meal I had was about 100 dollars too, but that was back in high school, before I knew better to look for a cheaper yet equally good Japanese restaurant.

The sad part was the dinner party didn't order any dessert. You had to decide whether or not to order the dessert a half an hour ahead of time so nobody could decide if they would have room for dessert. Plus, we stayed away from the wine. A person who wrote a review for the restaurant said they mark up their wine 400%. So we were a bit leary of ordering wine and paying $400 dollars per bottle or something like that.

The bill could of been even higher. Indifferent

However, it was well worth the experience. I'll have to do that again sometime.

Some people at the table next to ours got wine and the waiter pours the bottle into a decanter. It's pretty wild how they hold the bottle higher above the decanter, which was shaped like a short fat vase, and pour. Looks very cool.

You're right it could have been. There are more expensive restaurants in NYC.

They have like fancy pizza restaurant that charge $40 dollars for a pie and that's the minimum you can order.

I remember pizza use to cost like $1.25 in NY.

Ah, gotcha. I wasn't sure if it was a comment at my questioning of MW2's price being raised for the PC, but yet my utter willingness to spend the amount of money being discussed on a meal and drinks.

Wow, that's a high freaking markup. Do you know if they are marking up, like, premium French wines, or ALL wines by that much? (I recently read a lot of places in the States will markup imported wines and spirits.)

Can't say for sure. I'm not a wine officinado. I'm content with a ten dollar bottle of shiraz. Your asking the wrong guy on that one.

Yeah, for Valentines I took Julie to a nice Italian restaurant in Whistler. It was just over $160 for the two of us, but that included appetizer, desert and a bottle of wine. Both of us thought it was the best meal we had ever had, so definately worth the money.

My wife and I went to the melting pot. A really nice fondue style resturant. She wanted it for her birthday. So we went and it cost about $130 for the two of us. With only one glass of Wine each. It was a cool experience.
But, we went out and got some Hardees about 2 hours later. It wasn't enough food and honestly it was a bit over rated. Even my wife felt that way.
The best part about the place and the only thing we would return to it for was the dessert fondue. Its a melted chocolate that you dip everything into. That was good.

Oh really? We have gone to the Melting pot here in Seattle and although it is pricy (probably around $100 for two), by the end you are so stuffed you don't even want to look at food again.

Oh shi..., Melting Pot is a chain? I always heard people talk about it and figured it was local. Haven't been myself, but the people I've talked to about the one here in Spokane mirror what Stone said: expensive, but more than enough GOOD food.

We must have got jipped then
There was a lot of food, but we were pretty hungry soon after.

You have to understand, I think $50 - $60 dollars for a good meal for two people is fine. I don't live in New york or LA so I don't have to accept a price.

That said, IMO unless the staff physically feeds you wipes your mouth for you or provides what I mentioned in an earlier post, then $100+ for a plate of anything is a ripoff. Even if Emeril himself stood at my table and cooked it for me. Well maybe then.
I am not exactly broke, But I would rather have a good meal that I don't feel bad about paying for.

i think i'm over the whole expensive dining thing. maybe once in a while, but i've had better food at hole in the wall restaurants.

what you're really paying with the high prices is food that's presented well, good service, and ambiance.

I agree that you can find some good food at less expensive places. I still can't get over the 10.95 steak special(which may or may not be rat) at a local restaurant. However, I must say the food at Valbella was outstanding. My appetizer was a light salad with slices of fillet mignon, kapers, and some thinly sliced rectangles of parmasion served with a white wine sauce.

The entree was venison served with a sauce and carmalized onions mixed with a sweet potato type pudding for dipping. Some of the other dishes that I sampled were calamari, scallops, and sea bass. The food would just melt in your mouth after one bight. I never felt so full in my life. You could really taste the difference, at least in that place.

It wasn't a full bloated feeling but my stomach just felt satisfied. Not too mention they had no butter, but instead the bread they served was dipped in olive oil. The entire meal was like a carnival in your mouth. You could taste the distinct flavors of each dish.

*The walk to the subway was fun. There were a pair of women dressed as cats, a lady doing some spiderman antics, a guy screaming batman, and a black tranny. The only bummer was the last subway car was 667. Too bad it wasn't 666.

"This is an actual receipt from Nello's in New York City. The customer was Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who had no problem dropping 47k on food and drinks for himself and five other people. "

Yeah I read this story I think the waiter got a 7 thousand dollar tip.

50,000 will buy you a cute little cozy house in kansas. Granted you would be living in Kansas.
