I got a chance to go into New York last week and eat at a place called Valbella in Manhatten. It's an italian restaurant that has a contemporary setting. The dinner party consisted of six people. Our bar bill, with each person ordering one drink, was $120.00. The bill for the meal was $409.00. With everything included the final price rounded out around to be about $600.00. That's $100.00 per plate. The food was spectacular but wow, a bit on the high side.

I looked at the entire menu and nothing rang in at under 30$ per item and that included the appetizers. However, I must say the food was really good.

*Here's a link to the web page.

I had myself a very inexpensive lunch of Chef Boyardee and thought it was mighty tasty. I thought I would share that...

Not complaining at all. I'm just not used to eating dinner at that price point. Was an interesting experience. The food was amazing. If you ever get a chance to eat at one of those restaurants definately try it out.

All he is saying is he had a very good meal that was expensive.

Moonsong just think of it as a really expensive memory. That's how I always justify the bill.

You would think with them charging that much that they would have a decent website and an email address that didn't include @yahoo.com

A large majority of New Yorkers wouldn't eat in those spots because they are smart.

I had a valentines day meal that cost that much for 2 people here in LA.

I also had a friend who, on the same valentines day paid around that much for his dinner date, but sat in complete darkness. Some weird pretend your blind dinner.

I told him if I was his date I would have not been very happy. To get all dressed up, looking hot to sit in the dark?? Then have to worry about spilling food on my nice dress. But what I would do is go on that date and have us both wear night vision goggles - now that's a bad *** date.

It's suppose to be more sexual than anything. Not that Ive been to a blind dinner before, but I watched a show on it once. Confused

I guess the thrill comes from not knowing who is playing footsie with you under the table. haha

People should check out Je'Bon. It's a excellent Japanese restaurant I go to for its noodles. It has pretty decent pricing and located in a great neighborhood, St.Marks. Its also between the shopping district in Broadway and Union Square. A good place for visitors to check out.

it's totally suppose to be romantic and my friend and his date had a great time and found it very funny and romantic. Although he wasn't too happy about how much it cost. He said since he couldn't see his food it could have be Chef Boyardee.

It would be worth it just to have a legit reason to wear night vision goggles. I'm not very romantic. Heart I take that back - that is very romantic. Heart

wait a min, I saw Bret Michaels take dates to this restaurant I'm talking about on Rock of Love. I would have rather have not ever seen any of that...so maybe NVG isn't that great of an idea.

Brookelyn: I was so hoping you were referencing Rock of Love! LOL The best part of that dinner was the two girls chatting and talking while Bret was making out with the third girl in the dark. Gross...

My husband is from the Bronx and when we were there visiting recently, I told his friends about this NY restaurant I saw on TV, Ninja New York. So since I love ninjas I begged them all to make a night of it and eat dinner there. They had never heard of the place before and if you aren't looking for it, you would totally miss it.

Anyhoo, the place is really cool: you get in an elevator and when the door opens, it's like you're in a ninja fortress. They have a tasting menu as well as a la carte selections and the food was a-m-a-z-i-n-g. They do all of these fun presentations and what not and since we didn't have cash on us I told his friends to give me cash, I'd put it on my card...blah blah blah.

There were 10 of us all together and the final bill was around $900. Now yes, I realize we were in NY and yes, there were 10 of us but holy crap, I almost fainted and it made me want to offer to wash our dishes. lol It was however, an awesome experience and the best meal! Big Grin
