So i just got back from the midnight showing and i must say, i enjoyed this movie more then temple of doom but no where near Raiders or last crusade.
This movie was definetly hit and miss on humour. I think there were only a few scenes where the audience laughed out loud.
I also think they went cgi happy this time around especially with the ufo and alien story thrown in. At the end i couldnt help but think "This is still an Indiana Jones movie right??".
The chemistry between indy and Mutt tried in spots to replicate indy and his father but i dont think it was no where near what last crusade brought to the table.
And was it just me or The big twist that shia was indys son not suprise me?
And last complaint....Shia being Tarzan....Seriously Blink

On the upside though i didnt hate shia as much as i thought i would. He did a decent job here and could see some remnents of him becoming an indy type.
The chase scenes were great as always. And bringing back karen allen was a nice touch. The action was as good as ever, and if you throw out any believability i think it was an very enjoyable adventure. Smile

Overall i would give it a 7/10

so my favorite indy films now go
1) Last Crusade
2) Raiders of the lost ark
3) Kingdom of the crystal Skull
4) Temple of Doom

Better than Temple of Doom? That's my absolute favorite of the Indiana Jones series, followed by Crusade and then the Lost Arc. I completely called the thing about Shia being Indys son- it was just way too obvious. We're going to try and see it this weekend- I hope it doesn't let me down because I have always been a BIG fan of these movies. Mostly because I love Archaeology. Crack Whip

Sorry, i have to do it before it goes any further.

Its Raiders of the lost ark. With a "K"
Arc-means part of an overriding story or narrative. Like a story ""arc"

Ok continue.

Did they flat out say that his character was Indy's son? I am pretty sure I read it somewhere, or maybe it was so f-ing obvious that it seemed like I had.

Several of the parts were so over the top they kind of ruined it for me. Like the Tarzan, the water falls, the 80mph collision with an ant hll that stops the car on a dime and everyone is still ok. Come to think of it, that whole chase scene was just horrible and way too long.

I still enjoyed the movie, but I would have liked it a lot more if it was believeable. I thought national treasure and Da Vinci Code were better than this movie.

That says it all. That seems to be the general thought. I mean even in Temple of Doom, I believed that a mans beating heart was getting ripped out of his chest. CGI needs to take a back seat these days whenever possible.

Iron Man, you need it

Indiana Jones, not so much

Batman, only when it calls for it, like having a mental breakdown because of nerve gas and such.

Indiana Jones, not so much

They said Shia was Indy's son like...When he was first cast. Months and months ago. This is no surprise.

by the waterfall scene people in the theater were verbally saying pah, and pbbbt...to the absurdity of the scenarios and the way they were played out.

when indiana jones responds to that kid about why the heads were shaped the way they were(something about when the kids were young, the parents wrapped bands around their head or something) made sense...i was REALLY hoping that the alien mumbo jumbo thought of as true by the rest of the characters would turn out to be a "aha, told you so", showcase for REAL screwed up factual history....but no, they bring in the aliens, which was one of the lamest things i've seen on screen.

this was simply a waste of time, and it's a shame they use an iconic figure to get people to open their wallets for some of these people to cash a paycheck..which for the record, is all this turd had going for it, that is, the character of indiana jones...as i watched it and heard the familiar music and goofy lines, i immediately just wanted to leave and go watch the old ones.

and yes, i realize how old harrison ford is, but aside from presence...what did he even do in this flick?

.....ok i could keep going...but ya know, it doesn't deserve it. the movie sucked horribly. the end

We saw the movie last night and it wasn't as great as all the hype (not surprising). Amazingly the special effects seemed better in the other films. The scene where Shia is swinging from vine to vine like tarzan should have been cut for sure- and the waterfall scene was so bad I don't know why they even bothered with it. I liked how it got right into the action, but I'm still not sure I like the direction they chose to take with this movie- Aliens and Indiana Jones do not mix- like Oil and Water. I think I'd rather watch Temple of Doom or Raiders of the lost Ark than sit through this one again.

Two cool things though- they had John Hurt (He's from my favorite movie V for Vendetta.) & Ray Winstone cast. Ray Winstone is the man who voiced Beowulf.

Isn't his whip supposed to be like this third arm? I would have bought him using the whip more and being more agile.

I mean look at Live Free or Die Hard. John McLane played the "I did that in my younger years" thing, but had the added "and I still do it because I'm a badass character" THATS what Indy needed

I saw the midnight opening and wasn't disappointed in the least. Although, I didn't go in expected it to be better than the others, so I wasn't let down. Smile

I agree with pretty much everything Slick said. Well put.

I will say that I wasn't annoyed by the hokey stuff like the Tarzan bit or all the alien stuff. But that's because it just seemed hilarious. And I was in a theater with at least 50 people all groaning, cheering, or applauding at that stuff.

I was happy.

Hey your welcome. I Have no problem sleeping at night.
I just hate it when friends who i know are
smarer than that keep making the same simple mistakes. It obviously helped you in your other post. Now step off and go back to the playground.

Also i haven't seen it yet, but a few people mentioned the Tarzan scene had to do with the time period of the film. At the time there were a very popular series of Tarzan movies being made that starred Olympic Swimmer Johnny Weisemuller. so it was something to do with that.

And yes Brayn, arc does mean part of a circle. Thanks.

The new Indiana Jones is Steven Spielberg's way of saying (with George Lucas sitting closely by, smiling and nodding), "W-hell, this is only going to work once, and no matter what I do, people will go see it, so in all reality, it doesn't matter what I do!"

What have I been listening to recently?
"I have a competition in me."
"The world doesn't just disappear when you close your eyes..."

That was the feeling I was getting, as I drifted in and out of consciousness, nearing the end of a long work week with little sleep - and the booze didn't help, either. Movie theaters that serve alcohol? FANTASTIC!
