Yeah, this movie is also playing in the San Francisco Bay Area. A co-worker of my roommate saw it and she was afraid of her own bedroom. |

There are two endings, but the one in theaters now is the "new" ending. After Paramount picked up the movie, Steven Spielberg did some work on it and they shot a new ending. I imagine the original ending will be on the DVD release.

Was it a packed house? And I'm sure they'll add both endings in the DVD release to make everyone happy. I am glad they didn't remake the whole thing like some people were saying they might do. |

The Grudge scared the crap out of me. But it wasn't a good, satisfying scare. I knew every single plot twist and predicted every jump. My problem was that I expected the "jump" a split second too soon or late. Most movies have a count of sorts that you can do when you know a scare is coming, and it's easy to see what's happening. The grudge was like a Meshuggah song you've never heard before, the count was weird... so even though I knew she would turn around to face the ghost, I always missed it and jumped. Plus the voice-sound, creeped me the farns out.
Edit: A note... I don't like to be spooked. I don't like feeling like my heart just blew up. I like to be terrified, petrified psychologically. I like my mind to have to try and figure out what is happening. Cheap "BOO!" types scares just make me angry. Things that make my mind warp (Se7en anyone?) are the movies I like. |

I didnt watch it in the theatre... in his apartment with all the lights out. I can't even remember the story line for Grudge I just know it was scary as all heck. I'm sure my surrounding helped thou. |

I've always loved to be scared while watching creepy movies.
When I'd watch scary movies when I was little I would get my dad to turn out the lights, sit right beside me, and before the movie would start I'd tell him not to forget to scare me - so throughout the movie he would grab me suddenly, and say 'RAWR!' - I would jump and scream every time and loved it Even now, at 25, I get scared and enjoy it. Sometimes I will even get scared in my house at night and have to run into my room and jump on my bed! Or when I'm trying to get my keys in the door, I will all of a sudden get scared and try to open it as fast as I can, then quickly close the door behind me. Once inside I will be shaky and out of breath. It's silly and I don't know why I do it, but I've been doing stuff like that since I was little |

I saw the movie earlier today and I couldn't help but think back to certain scenes while I was driving down a long stretch of empty road. What makes this movie unnerving is with what's not shown; it's all about suggestion and mystery that's only intensified by your now paranoid thoughts. What makes this movie disappointing is the very end. Highlight for spoiler:
It would have been better if you could hear their screams downstairs and then...complete silence, with the camera still fixed in its regular spot. You would still hear the heavy footsteps but that's it. Seeing the boyfriend thrown across the screen and his girlfriend snarl in the last frame clashed with what was up until that point, a movie that relied on imagery and sound that caused more dread than cheap shock reactions. PS: Can someone remind me how to use spoiler tags...instead of typing in white? |

Everyone should see this movie.
Blair Witch has nothing. Nothing, on this. Blair witch never scared me. Nor, did it stay with me like P.A. did. I love it! |

This discusses all the endings and how the film differs from the festival cuts to the theatrical cut. A good read if you've seen the film and are curious about the other endings. |

I personally LOVED this movie. I'm a self titled "horror movie fanatic" and this one scared me to tears. I can't wait to get it on DVD. It was simply magnificent!

I just got back from the theaters with my friend....and I must say are we the only two people really disappointed and bored in this movie? We mentioned half way through about walking out(Which i never usually contemplate) but we already payed so we figure we would Mystery science theater it to get some entertainment since we were the only 2 at the showing.
I just thought the scares and movie was too predictable, the main characters were unlikable and there was just a lot of nothing going on. I didn't even jump once...most of the times rolling my eyes and Alex and I turning to each other saying whats going to happen next. Maybe I just went in with the wrong mentality or being overhyped by everyone saying "It's one of the scariest movies ever". |

I would imagine a daytime screening in the middle of the week probably isn't the ideal environment to see it.
The terror of it, I think, is totally dependent of your ability to put yourself in the shoes of the couple. I didn't jump once, either. I don't think it's a "jump scare" kind of movie. It's more about tension and straining to see things down that darkened hallway. ------------ | GameDibs.com | Dibcast | Twitter | Facebook | Steam | A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere |
