At the risk of sounding hyperbolous(That may or may not be a word), this might be one of the best horror movies I've seen. Definitely the best in the last ten years. It's like the Blair Witch took steroids and some acting lessons.
The movie has jump scares, but it's more about the suspense. Throughout many of the nighttime bedroom scenes, the camera is positioned with with a perfect view of both the sleeping couple as well as the doorway of their bedroom, which is wide open to expose their darkened upstairs hallway. Every one of these bedroom scenes is gut wrenching. You KNOW something is about to happen, but you never know what. A lone light at the end of the hallway gives off the perfect amount of light, which will leave you straining to see something in the darkness. This is the type of movie that I think is best to see in a packed theater. Half of the experience is atmosphere, and hearing the terror shrieks of the theater patrons around me was wonderful. Of course, at the same time, this is the perfect movie to watch on DVD (or Blu-Ray) late at night with all the lights off, but we'll have to wait quite a awhile for that. I'm not a big fan of new-school horror. Rob Zombie is a hack, and it seems everything that comes out is either some torture-porn SAW ripoff or a ****ty remake. This is neither. It is something different. It turns the faux-documentary style of Blair Witch and [REC] on it's head. It's not playing in all markets yet, 12 to be exact - Boston, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, El Paso, Hampton Roads metro area, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Portland, Salt Lake City (lucky me!), and Toronto. However, Paramount has marketed this movie so well, that it will probably open nationwide within the next two weeks. When it opens near you, GO SEE IT. This message has been edited. I totally wanted to see it the moment it came out, but was let down when I found out that it was playing nowhere near me. I will have to wait those couple of weeks
The way you described it made me want to see it even more! I can't wait Oh, and this made me laugh..

It's been playing here in Orlando also. I actually got a pair of complimentary passes from the movie's producers to attend the premiere. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling very good, and wasn't able to make it. I am definitely interested in checking this one out. |

I can't wait for this movie. The email I got yesterday, from their website, said that it would be opening nationwide on October 16. I was disapointed when I saw it wasn't playing anywhere in Arkansas at first. Happy I finally get to check it out

This movie sure manages to stick with you. I didn't think the movie had got to me, because these types of movies normally don't, but I got home and found myself jumping at every noise and shadow for the rest of the night. Most of that ended up being kitten, who I guess decided he wanted very badly for me to drop dead of a heart attack.
I was just reading over on i09 that the Writer/Director of Paranormal Activity Oren Peli is beginning production on a movie that takes place at Area 51 (called, what else? Area 51) and is going to be shot in a similar style to Paranormal Activity. ------------ | GameDibs.com | Dibcast | Twitter | Facebook | Steam | A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere |

Is Paranormal Activity sort of filmed in the same style as REC? Because I loved that movie and the rawness it brought. It's my favorite horror Ive seen this year.
Has anyone seen the movie, Descent? OMG! Must see and turn off all the lights and don't read the back of the dvd. It's better not to know what you are about to watch. |

It's definitely a similar style, although Paranormal Activity feels a lot more "homemade" than REC (or REC's inferior American counterpart Quarantine).
Plus with Paranormal Activity, the scares are about what you don't see. ------------ | GameDibs.com | Dibcast | Twitter | Facebook | Steam | A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere |

Well I know what Im doing on Oct. 16th.
I also can't wait to see Where the Wild Things Are. I think that comes out the same day as PA. I really hope it isnt a let down. I want it to be magical; a movie that becomes a classic just like the book. |

I thought Quarantine was a great movie. It's the freakiest thing I've ever seen! But everyone I recommended it to hated it..idk if it was just the whole theater effect, but it seriously gave me the heebie jeebies. Can't wait to see PA! |

I thought Quarantine was ok. A bit silly, but I had fun watching it.

Saw it in Orlando. The seating arrangment was crazy and took awhile since they wanted everyone to sit a certain way.
The movie was definitely well made and the scares were not cheap. I was only a little disappointed with the very end and anyone who has seen it knows why. Morgan was telling me that it actually wasn't the original ending seen in some screenings. Regardless, it has a good buildup and you'll have trouble not having an eerie feeling before going to bed. The Descent is an awesome movie. Actually watching it right now on SyFy. So bloody! |

I suggest getting there kinda early if it's a limited showing. Maybe even call the theater and see how they are doing it and take that person's name down. It was a little weird here where there was assigned seating. Orlando was one of the early cities it started showing in and they were filming here at the time as well so it may be different at your theater. Just call the theater and make sure. |
