It's only $20. And it's definitely a third of the length of many $60 games. (I know, math is silly.)
I think it is worth it, but I know many people are having issues with the price. If you're a fan of PA and adventure games, it's a no-brainer. If you play the demo and are feeling apathetic, well, then... it will feel like a rip-off.
I played some of it. The gameplay is ok if uninspired. The dialogue doesn't seem to be very funny and the price feels high for a 6 hour game that is the first episode of 4
I downloaded it and played it all in one sitting, which was about 7 hours, because I took my time. I think it's worth a buy, but 1600 points does seem a tad much. All in all, I enjoyed it, and I'm glad their humor was intact for the game.

1600 points? that should make it worth it alone hehe
I played through it and I also didn't find it funny, and sometimes I found myself just skippping a large portion of the dialog even though I love Tycho's writing. I wasn't expecting to laugh my ass off the whole time either so the lack of humor was not a big issue for me. I just didn't find it very challenging at all, and the story wasn't interesting.
One thing I will say is they did a great job moving the comic style into a 3d world and integrating it seamlessly into the 2d flash animation sequences. The audio was also great for setting mood and environment.
I think if it were $10 or maaaaybe $15 I would be likely to recommend it, but $20 is just over what most people would be wlling to pay for this. I don't know if I would buy the second episode if it is the same price.
I'm not sure what $60 games Lirael is playing but most of the ones I play are more than 18 hours long. A lot more. And Gabe made a comment on PA.com that they feel the price is worth it because the quality of the game is better than most. That is BS. Are you going to compare the quality of PA Episode 1, to GTA4 when even compensatng for the money difference is still twice as long of a game?
If they were reviewing their own game I'm sure they would call it a rip off.

Haha. You got me there. Most of the games I'm playing are much longer than 18 hours. I play a lot of RPGs (So I paid $60 for 115 hours of Lost Odyssey). And games with an online multiplayer component are obviously also bargains. (Can I even count how many hours I've put into The Orange Box?)
But there are many many games that are 18 hours... or even shorter. There are 80-hour games I wouldn't pay $10 for. There are 50-hour games I would pay $80 for. I just think it's strange to put a price tag on a game based on its length. I wasn't kidding, I really do think math is silly. In this case, anyway. (Calculus can be pretty neat.)
I only said it was worth it for me. My original advice stands, which is that you should play the demo. I think that's a fair barometer of whether the game will be worth it to you.
No offense but I see this game as a way to just cash in on people buying games now. I don't like Penny Arcade so I'm not putting my money so they can get rich. It was the assasins creed review they wrote that showed me the douchieness of them.

Freedom of speech my friend. Freedom of speech.
Oh noes, a million nerds will post hate comments that might border on liable. Oh noes.
I finished the game last week & I enjoyed it quite a bit.
I don't really put much of an emphasis on length when talking about whether or not I think a game is worth the money because there are very few Single Player games I've enjoyed enough to actually complete in the past 10 months or so (outside of racing & music games) & those that I have (Portal, Call of Duty 4, The Simpsons Game & Penny Arcade Adventures) are all games that most people complain are too short.
Yet, they are easily standouts to me in the large collection of 360 games I have sitting on my shelf/hard drive.
If I get enough enjoyment out of the game, I don't really care how long it takes.
